Sep. 26, 2006 - John Dawson and Friends

Rick Danko and John Dawson

Deadheads Festival -A Tribute to Jerry Garcia-  Japan 1997

Festival Express - 1970

John Dawson - Jerry Garcia - Bob Weir

Great North Special, were you on board?
You can't find a ride like that no more
Night the chariot swung down low
Ninety nine children had a chance to go

Who are those people with John "Marmaduke" Dawson?

......none other than Rock and Roll Hall of Famers...

Rick Danko, Janis Joplin, and Jerry Garcia

One long party from front to end
Tune to the whistle going round the bend
No big hurry, what do you say
Might as well travel the elegant way

Ragtime solid for twenty five miles
Then slip over to the Cajun style
Bar car loaded with rhythm and blues
Rock and roll wailing in the old caboose

Long train running from coast to coast
Bringing 'long the party where they need it the most
Whup on the box car, beat on the bell
Nothing else shaking so you might just as well

Never had such a good time
In my life before
I'd like to have it one time more
One good ride from start to end
I'd like to take that ride again

Run out of track and I caught the plane
Back in the county with the blues again
Great North Special been on my mind
Might like to ride it just one more time

Might As Well

Lyrics: Robert Hunter
Music: Jerry Garcia

Sep. 20, 2006 - Respect your elders

Willie Nelson, 73 years old country music legend and members of his band, including 75 year old sister Bobbie Nelson were arrested Monday on their bus for drug possession after a concert in Louisiana. Local police first got suspicious when they observed the bus driving through town without once touching the ground.

Police seized about 1-1/2 pounds of marijuana and two-tenths of a pound of mushrooms from the bus.

I keep on fighting for the things I want,
Though, I know, that when you're dead, you can't.
But I'd rather be a free man in my grave,
Than living as a puppet or a slave.

So, as sure as the sun will shine,
I'm gonna get my share, now, of what's mine.
And then the harder they come,
The harder they fall, one and all.

Aug. 21, 2006 - Hats off to David Nelson.....

from: www.jambands.com

The New Riders of the Purple Sage’s David Nelson recently went down to Nashville to record a selection of Grateful Dead songs with noted mandolin player Jesse McReynolds (of Jim and Jesse fame) for his new album. The pair recorded a number of Dead-chestnuts, including “Fire on the Mountain,” “Franklin’s Tower,” “Ripple” and “The Wheel.” On Friday, Nelson also joined McReynolds and his band, The Virginia Boys, at The Grand Old Opry. Nelson offered a version of “Ripple,” becoming the first performer to play a Grateful Dead song at the Opry. McReynolds recent recordings with Nelson will be released later this year....

There is a road, no simple highway
Between the dawn and the dark of night
And if you go, no one may follow
That path is for your steps alone

Ripple in still water
When there is no pebble tossed
Nor wind to blow

You who choose to lead must follow
But if you fall, you fall alone
If you should stand, then who's to guide you?
If I knew the way, I would take you home...
