Christmas Day is only Days Away!

Dec. 17, 2008
Categorized in: General Information

With the holidays arrival, comes an increased flow of mail in the form of cards, circulars and sale advertisements. Some days you feel like you are simply drowning in paper! But, we are all attempting to do our part in creating less waste and being more “Green.” I remember the day when I thought an artificial tree was just plain tacky, but since they can be reused every year they save damaging forests and the energy involved to search for the perfect tree each year. Now with the pre-lit trees, you can also save a whole lot of annoyance that getting the lights strung properly used to cause. Good grief, we now have the option of LED lights that are more energy efficient than our old traditional Christmas lights. A little spray of a pine fragrance can even provide that lovely evergreen holiday scent! However, if you are using a live Christmas tree this year, you can visit Earth911.com to search your zip code to find the nearest tree recycling center near you.

Happy Holidays to you and yours from your friends at Beachcomber Properties on St. Simons Island.

Jekyll Island a/k/a Holiday Island

Categorized in: Jekyll Island Information

If you’ve never seen the Holiday light display that Jekyll does each year, you’ve missed out on a treat. The holiday festivities kick off on Saturday, November 29th, in the historic district. The annual Christmas Tree Lighting festivities begin at 4:30 with a line up of local talent including dancers, musical ensembles and The Fred McKinnon Band. At dark, the massive evergreen will be lit and bring your children to put in their order to Santa and Mrs. Claus at Crane Cottage. They convey Santa and the Mrs. in on a fire truck, so bring the children and grandchildren and then take a ride and admire the handiwork of the crew’s light transformation (complete with Santa in a sleigh pulled by a team of dolphins!!) .

The weather forecast for Saturday is predicted at a high of 61º and a low of 46º, so hopefully it will be a good evening to bring your lawn chairs and take advantage of a nice evening out of doors compliments of Holiday Island!

In this day of blinking lights and animated Santas and such, perhaps we would all find a return to the 1800's a special experience to remember. Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation is one our nation's choices for the National Register of historical homes and is found only a few miles out of the city of Brunswick, GA. On Friday, 11/30/07 and Saturday, 12/1/07, Christmas on the Old Plantation will offer us a glimpse into Christmas as it was celebrated during the 1850's on a Southern rice plantation. If you care to read more on the plantation, click the link below:
If you are in an area of the country experiencing cold, damp weather, allow me to lure you with today's local forecast, "Sunny and clear with highs up to 74ยบ. There is no time like the present to come experience the Beachcomber Lifestyle for yourself. Give me a call if I can assist you!
