REALTORS® Raise Walls on Las Vegas Habitat House

Saturday was a special day for the Parker family of Las Vegas; it was the day the National Assn. of REALTORS® raised the walls of their new Habitat for Humanity home at 1933 Gregory Street.

Patty Parker and her two daughters, Jasmine, 14, and Cassidy, 12, were joined by leaders of NAR, the Nevada Assn. of REALTORS®, the Greater Las Vegas Assn. of REALTORS® and Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas at the wall raising ceremony.

The Parker family will receive the keys to their one story, three-bedroom home, when it is dedicated during the 2007 REALTORS® Conference and Expo in Las Vegas November 13-16. More than 30,000 REALTORS® are expected to attend the annual convention.

“As the nation’s leading advocate for homeownership, NAR is proud to help Ms. Parker and her daughters achieve this significant goal,” said Pat V. Combs, NAR president from Grand Rapids, Mich., and vice president of Coldwell Banker-AJS-Schmidt. “REALTORS® are in the business of building communities, and through our continued partnership with Habitat, we look forward to making it possible for even more working families to attain affordable homes in neighborhoods across the country.”

This is the seventh year that NAR and Habitat for Humanity International have worked together to build a home in the host city for NAR’s annual conference. REALTORS® have also contributed to Habitat for Humanity’s homebuilding efforts along the Gulf Coast and abroad.
In 2005, following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, REALTORS® made an unprecedented commitment to raise more than $4 million to build as many as 50 homes along the Gulf Coast. Working with Habitat, teams of REALTORS® volunteers from across the country continue to volunteer their time and skills to construct the homes, and NAR expects to have all of the sponsored homes under construction by the end of 2007.

Internationally, REALTORS® have sponsored homes in Australia, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Poland, and in Southeast Asia following the 2004 tsunami.

The Greater Las Vegas Assn. of REALTORS® will also be sponsoring a Habitat home on Gregory Street and will raise the walls on that home on August 11, 2007. REALTORS® from the Nevada area will be working on both homes throughout the summer.

The November 2007 REALTORS® Conference and Expo will take place at the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino and the Sands Expo and Convention Center and will feature hundreds of conference sessions, more than 700 exhibitors, and tens of thousands of real estate professionals from the U.S. and 50 countries. New this year is the International 2nd Home and Resort Pavilion, where attendees can learn more about second homes and resort properties in the U.S. and abroad.
