NeighborWorks America Posts Banner Month at Training Institute
NeighborWorks America announced that it trained more than 200 homeownership counselors in foreclosure intervention counseling during its recent NeighborWorks Training Institute – the most counselors ever trained in foreclosure at an Institute.
As the nation’s largest certifier of homeownership counselors, NeighborWorks America has trained over 3,300 foreclosure counselors in the last four years. In 2008, NeighborWorks expects to award 2,800 professional certificates to foreclosure counselors.
“The strong need for additional certified foreclosure counselors across the nation is evident,” said Ken Wade, chief executive officer of NeighborWorks America. “With more than two million adjustable rate mortgages expected to reset in 2008, we are working to equip more counselors with the knowledge and skills they need to help homeowners in their communities avoid foreclosure and sustain homeownership.”
NeighborWorks America trains and certifies counseling professionals through a variety of venues, including at least four national NeighborWorks Training Institutes around the country each year and increasingly through regional events conducted at local venues. The next NeighborWorks Training Institute will be held February 25-29, 2008, in Atlanta, GA, with more foreclosure training courses scheduled.
Community-based counseling provided by certified counselors continues to be an important resource for homeowners in danger of losing their homes to foreclosure. Through the NeighborWorks network of more than 230 independent nonprofit organizations in all 50 states, trained counselors advise families one-on-one and help them make the right homeownership choices for them.
With more options available to homeowners in danger of foreclosure, certified foreclosure counselors help homeowners understand their options and the steps they can take to stay in their homes.
