NAREE Conference Will Draw Nation’s Top Real Estate Journalists

 

 
The nation’s leading architects will talk about green design and debunking the myths, net-zero energy housing and going off the grid at the National Association of Real Estate Editors' (NAREE's) 44th Annual Real Estate Journalism Conference, which will bring the nation’s top journalists and authors to Austin.

NAREE's "Ultimate News Conference will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 2 and end at noon on Saturday, June 5 at the Hilton in downtown Austin.

Newsworthy sessions will also cover commercial real estate -- the next meltdown, multi-family, new mortgage market drivers, Washington's impact on housing, future trends in residential brokerage, and the vacation home market. 
 
Foreclosure questions: are there more to come and will the bank keep them under wraps -- will also be addressed.

Architect Scott Ziegler -- who beat brands including I. M. Pei and Cesar Pelli for the design of the tallest residential tower West of the Mississippi in downtown Austin and known for his sustainable design -- and pioneer green architect LaVerne Williams -- with work that takes single family homes beyond Leed Platinum and off the power grid -- are among the noteworthy design speakers on Wednesday and Thursday.

Counselors of Real Estate Chairman, Arthur Pasquarella, of BPG Properties headquarterd in Philadelphia will also address the group on Wednesday.

“Scores of the nation’s top journalists -- including staff writers, editors and freelancers --will be coming to Austin to cover these newsworthy events,” said NAREE 2010 President Lauren Beale of the Los Angeles Times. “Austin, with its reputation for being a leader in sustainability, is one of those emerging cities writers are eager to explore.”

Beale will also be one of the presenters at the conference, delivering an informative speech entitled: “So, You are New To the Real Estate Beat.”

Professional development programs available to freelance journalists and staffers will include sessions on blogging, videocasting and online innovations. Harold Bubil, award winning real estate editor from the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, will lead a multimedia workshop.

Sessions on self-publishing, new opportunities in website journalism, and tips on mining the Internet for real estate stats are also planned. Confirmed presenters will include Evan Smith of the Texas Tribune, Glenn W. Smith of DogCanyon.org, Walt Molony of the National Association of Realtors, Brad Inman of Inman News, and Al Martin of WhatWorks Communications.

Off-site tours will lead conferees to projects of cutting-edge design and western scenery of the Texas Hill Country. Austin, one of the greenest cities in the nation, offering hundreds of venues for live music, is called “Live Music Capital of the World.”

Winners of NAREE's 60th annual Journalism Awards Competition and the Bruss Real Estate Book Awards Competition are among the top journalists expected. NAREE's prestigious awards will be presented Friday June 4, with the book awards banquet at noon and the awards ceremony at 5:30 p.m.

Also on Friday afternoon, June 4, NAREE's ever popular Meet The Press will offer freelancers, columnists, and publicists face-to-face mini-meetings with editors and real estate journalists for queries and pitches. Attendees are guaranteed to pick up story ideas and gather news sources that can be called for quotes and information in the future.
