Do you have any stories about ghosts in Los Gatos? I would like to hearthem. I'm collecting ghost stories to share on my Live in Los Gatos blog. And maybe someday I will put together a book on the area's haunted places.
I know your area really well - sold a house not too long ago on Heather Drive (same neighborhood). I didn't know that that area was also part of the Downing Family farm, but it makes sense.
In terms of the history there, I don't know it but I do know that Los Gatos - Almaden Road was a fairly main thoroughfare in the late 1800s. At that time, Blossom Hill Road did not go through the area beween Union and Camden. Someone told me that it was marshy back then, so was not passable. LG Almaden, which runs next to your street, was the way people got from Los Gatos to Almaden and points south.
My understanding is that back then, it really was the "wild west" and there were problems with horse theives, home invasions and other big issues. There weren't any hotels out in your area, so travellers would knock on farmhouse doors and ask to spend the night as a guest. Sometimes it went awry - the "guests" were really theives, and in some cases the families were not just robbed, but killed.
I'd love to hear more about what you have experienced in your home. I could probably get a title company to run the chain of title for you so you could see who owned it when, and then be able to learn the history. (I would need the exact address, which of course I would not publish.)
