UGLY, UGLY, UGLY!!!
LOSS DROPS RECORD TO 2 & 2
The last time these two teams met was in last sessions championship game. SSL posted a 6-0 shutout win to capture their 2nd straight title. Apparently S&R hadn't forgotten.
S&R came out flying, scoring the first goal quickly for an early 1-0 lead. SSL came back a few minutes later to tie the game. However, less than a minute after the SSL tally, S&R buried a rocket from outside the white line to take a 2-1 lead. For all intents & purposes, this game was over. S&R never looked back.
The S&R side marked aggressively, giving the SSL side little room on the small field #3 while at the same time, attacking on the offensive side with counters as a result of their smothering defense. SSL had no answer. Perhaps it was the Louisville tourney hangover or the small field, but SSL could never right the ship. Try as they might, they just could never muster up the offense to counter the S&R attack. As a result, the defense was porous & S&R took advantage of these opportunities.
With the loss, SSL now is forced to win each of their remaining games against formidible competition, as well as depending on others, in order to have a chance to compete in their 8th straight championship match. That, friends, is a tall hill to climb. And the road to the championship doesn't get any easier. Next week they'll face Freaky Shakra in an 11:25 tilt on field #1. Those late games are never easy.
