Recently, Port Royal, South Carolina was crowned as one of the 10 Coolest towns in America by Budget Travel.  The criteria was a little different from typical best of the best list.  The contest took into account the following attributes:  being able to get a great cup of coffee and local restaurannts, when people leave they realize it was a mistake and want to return and having art galleries was a must.  Remember, this a list for cool not for the most.

To me this certainly is no surprise.  Port Royal has that small town feel with luxuries admired by residents.  Non-chain stores like The Old Town Coffee Haus, 11th Stree Dockside and Moon Doggies bring out the Southern Charm which makes the area very desirable.  These shops, along with the fact the Port Royal is a waterfront community and very close to the historic Town of Beaufort SC, were reasons it made the list.
