How much do you have to spend to make quality videos?
Do the video cameras that cost $800-$1000 produce quality videos?
Does the editing software matter a lot or does it have more to do with the camera? I'm not looking to be Steven Spielberg but I am interested in making videos that are somewhat professional looking.

Thanks in advance.

I do not take video work and do not have experience with video

cameras at all. I do photography for Realtors and also private stuff, because it has been my hobby for more than 40 years.
Sorry

Brian: It has more to do (actually everything!) with the person HOLDING the camera and USING the editing software. Just like still photos - it's more about the person taking the picture than the camera. An inexperienced person using a $5000 camera is not going to take great pictures - an experienced photographer can do magic with a $150 point and shoot.

It's really NOT about the gear.

You can make quality videos with a $150 flip camera. Will it do what you need it to do? Maybe, maybe not. There are certain things that you have to consider, namely how wide the lens, bitrate, etc.

But the most difference between the $150 flip cam, and a $2000 semi-pro cam is just like what Nashua said! The difference is the person operating the camera, not the camera itself.

Thanks for the responses. It's encouraging to know the price tag isn't everything.
