I need to have images for my website that are 1250px x 150px.
What kind of camera and lens would I need to accomplish this?

Just about any camera will take photos as 1250pixels wide. You would have to use a program to crop the photo to 150pixels high after downloading them to your computer. You can use a program such as GIMP to do this.

If you use microsoft professionals one program is included called Picture-it. A very simple program where you can key in the width you want.

I wonder why so few use this program. Try it, it is free.

Thanks for the informative responses.

What I'd really like to be able to do is to resize the image to 150px but not maintain the aspect ratio. This way I don't lose any part of the picture. Of course not maintaining the aspect ratio distorts the image. So how would I take a photograph that can be stretched like this. A friend of mine mentioned that you can take multiple pictures and then merge them in Photoshop so you have a panaromaic view. Has anyone does this?

That is stitching and that is a good option.

Take the picture from the same spot, preferrable using a tripod and move from left to right and take your shots. And stichts two pictures at a time.

I want to purchase or get free a stitching software program. I want it to be user friendly. What are my options.

Photoshop will do the job but many versions, Lice CS4 are rather expensive. Check out Photoshop Elements. You sould not need the latest version so can pick up an older version for less than $ 50. Check first to ensure that the version you select will support stiching. It will alos allow you do do a lot of other editing, like straightening the horrizon, adjusting brightness and contrast and allow you to make your pictures look great!
