Real Estate and the Internet - Should I hire a Web design Professional or go it alone?

I feel you really have to ask yourself a couple things here, do you have the time required not only to write the site but to service the site? Do you have the expertise in not only designing and writing the code but dealing with the ever changing word of search engine optimization?

Now let me ask you this? Should I try and sell my house without a Real Estate Agent? Do I have the time and expertise to not only advertise the home, but stage it, show it and close it? As a Real Estate Agent you know the numbers and you know more often then not it just simply doesn’t work out for the FSBO and they end up with an Agent anyway.

So are you ready to waste all your free time designing the site, learning a programming language, updating content, getting listed on the Search Engines for a project that will probably not work out? You would be much better off spending this time building clients and working real Estate Deals.

Things to watch out for when hiring a web developer;

1.)      Is the web developer going to update content on a regular basis?

2.)      Is the developer going to get you listed on search engines?

3.)      Did the developer promise you first page rankings on the search engines? (If so run, NO ONE can guarantee ad placement)

4.)      Short Deadlines – Beware, He might be selling you a template

What you should look for is a developer that tells it to you straight

1.)      Your website doesn’t generate traffic, you must develop an online advertising campaign to bring potential new clients to your site, simply placing a website online will not generate you hundreds of quality driven leads.

2.)      Even if all the advertising goes well and the website is written well, it is still a competition for  site placement on the search engines.

3.)      Remember there is no shortcut for success, it takes work dedication and a strong dedicated team to build a lasting web portal.
