Diary of a home buyer! |
Hello world!
It's been ahwile again....my Blog is always on my mind but my mind is not always on my blog!
Anyways glad to be back! So I have become my own client. Ryan and I just bought a bank owned house here in Bedford. I am about to feel my buyers pain of doing work, packing, moving etc! Although we are crazy- we find the work interesting and enjoyable, at least for the most part! We are no strangers to it- we have been working on our 1850 Greek Revival for 5 years and did major rehab there, and we "flipped" a cool Post and Beam house in Littleton last year.
Our new "old" house (circa 1929) is in decent shape but we have to do some electrical work, shore up some beams, repaint everything, refinish the floors and gut the 2 bathrooms! Phew! And that's on the inside. But we feel we are making a great invesment in the house by taking care of these items, plus we get to enjoy them. I am going to get the tile (Subway on the shower walls, basket weave on the floor) and vanity (Carrerra marble top with a black rubbed custom base) that I have always dreamed of! Right, Ryan? So we are in our element, somewhat!
But what's different now is we have a family. There can be no weekend long projects that we both need to work on...one of us needs to hang with Lil June! I have also yet to move an entire house full of furniture and STUFF. I am going to follow the advice I give my clients- higher a professional mover, at least for the big stuff! (I am a tried and true Gentle Giant follower) Start early and go through closets, cabinets etc so when moving/packing day comes you are organized and efficient. Luckily our move is less than a 1/2 mile away. I really can't imagine moving across the country or across the ocean as many of my clients have. My mind is clouding over with visions of boxes and bubble wrap just thinking about it!
So our goal is to move in at the end of May- that gives us about 6 weeks to make this all happen! Wish us luck! I will keep you posted- my own mini HGTV show right here!
Okay so how about the rest of the market!? What is happening out there....
I am seeing: lots of activity! People are looking and buyers will take action if a house is priced correctly, is staged or in perfect shape, and is in a desirable area. Bedford has fared well overall. Could be better, but it could be worse. Go slightly west of here and it's not good. Arlington is defying all odds- inventory is lasting only days! Lexington is pretty strong too, especially many of the higher end homes. But, the good weather is here! Is the Spring market finally here too? We should know more in the next 5 days!
Now, off to play with baby- I mean pack!! :)
