The New Riders of the Purple Sage’s David Nelson recently went down to Nashville to record a selection of Grateful Dead songs with noted mandolin player Jesse McReynolds (of Jim and Jesse fame) for his new album. The pair recorded a number of Dead-chestnuts, including “Fire on the Mountain,” “Franklin’s Tower,” “Ripple” and “The Wheel.” On Friday, Nelson also joined McReynolds and his band, The Virginia Boys, at The Grand Old Opry. Nelson offered a version of “Ripple,” becoming the first performer to play a Grateful Dead song at the Opry. McReynolds recent recordings with Nelson will be released later this year....

There is a road, no simple highway
Between the dawn and the dark of night
And if you go, no one may follow
That path is for your steps alone

Ripple in still water
When there is no pebble tossed
Nor wind to blow

You who choose to lead must follow
But if you fall, you fall alone
If you should stand, then who's to guide you?
If I knew the way, I would take you home...

Bilbo and Gala got  me started, in fact, Bilbo wanted to go as far north as Alaska....guess he couldn't tell me that the best way for all of us to survive and get bacik to the Water Mill days was to remember where I found he and Gala and Tasha and the pups, think of how beautiful the Merced river valley is and all that goes with it and start heading home that way.  Unfortunately Brad had taken us through Donner Pass and if your sorta hiking even in your head yoou get to understand what the Sparrows meant when they wanted to teach me how to be swallowed and shit out by a cat in 3 seconds!!! Bad news is its taken almost  four years so their estimate was off a second and a half.  Must be why I Keep finding poor little dead birds and the cat keeps telling me how much the whole idea repulses her and no she didn't do it they just keep llanding in the yard.  Since when  was a yard a  rectal canal  to get back to better life?  Yesterday it was a poor little baby dove and I got so freaked I cursed the world for half an hour for setting it up but maybe it finally means I made it in here as a baby still sorta alive in what I was told was 1962 who knows anymore.  Unfortunately the only other ones I've been able to hold  were a dying sparrow, a dove with a bad brocken wing a frog with lawnmowered head and a cute little brown bat that I called Zygore after I cried over him for  a while too.  Ther have been at least 20 or so Lizards and even a Rio Grand Chirping frog, very rare.  Several roaches and a dozen or so spiders.  If you know of any one who xould possibly find me in here that could arrive in some sort of human looking body please let me know.   By the way April is awesome at faking it with the Donner party she knows how to make bones out of grass, meat out of Acorns amd Mesquite beans in just a little while!  Cool!              Lots love Anette Meyer a/k/a Mary  Read the Pirate  ( Pandora  Imara Fallon Hallowell)
