Jan. 5, 2006 - Motto for the year 2006
As we enter the new year many people adopt 'New Years Resolutions' and attempt to change something in their lives. Most times these resolutions are vigorously pursued and acted upon however the good intentions seem to fall by the wayside rather quickly. My dear friend Joanne has motivated me in past few years to embrace the idea of a 'New Years Motto'. The motto is a softer more subtle approach to change and it easier to sustain long term. I have some ides for this years motto and would enjoy hearing ideas from others.

| Ok so I finally figured out how to log in - Judge the effect - I hope to do this better this year. I often find in business (and personally) I react to something without judging the effect it will have on others. How often have we received a comment about an innocent conversation or email and learn that our meaning was taken wrong . I work in a fairly sensitive evnironment - people bruise very easily here so I am determined to "Judge the effect" of any correspondence I write to determine how will this reader/audience interpret my response. |

| Interesting! I guess for a motto to be effective is doesn't have to be sugar coated and 'motivational' based. Being controlled by the 'Think Positive' condition can eventually lead to huge disappointments. I was considering "No Expectations" as 2006 motto and now feel the choice is appropriate. I was troubled by the instinctive negative feel of this but now see that it simply a message that could realign a mindset. |
