   I am a life-long seasonal resident at Shavehead Lake.  As long as i can remember, I would always fish for gar.  They are the most difficult fish to catch.  I think they are the ugliest fish around.  They have a long pointy snout with tons of razor sharp teeth, rough scaily skin, and scary looking.  This is how i would fish for them,  put the strongest pound test line on a pole, a 6-inch steel liter, stick bobber w/glow stick (nite fishing) single hook, and a fish chunk.  Not too big, the gar will take it and usually go out to the middle of the lake and start eating it, and when your bobber goes under, set the line and real that sucker in.  You almost need another person to net it, and it is not intended for children, since the fish would probably pull you in.  The average we have caught is about 5 feet in length.
