September 11, 2007 - A message from Marilyn McLane
Dear friends and
neighbors, I am honored to have been chosen to serve as a
board member of Shavehead Lake Association.I hope to become
acquainted with all of you over time. Please allow me to share a
little about myself. My folks introduced us kids to Shavehead in
1953 and we rented a cottage at the resort a couple of summers
until they bought our lot on the peninsula in 1955. In the
late sixities they built what they hoped would be their retirement
home but Dad passed away the year of his retirement and Mom kept
her house in Mishawaka although we continued to enjoy time
here these many years. About two years ago I moved here
on a year round basis.I am not new to the lake...I am just a new
year round resident.I am also a long time member of Shavehead
Lake Peninsula Association, recently elected to it's board as well.
I feel it is extremely important that we find ways that
both organizations work toget her to solve issues pertinent to
all residents...
fairly and without embarking on WWIII. While I certainly don't
begrudge the social events organized for everyone's enjoyment,
(especially our spetacular fireworks) I have more interest in
envirionmental and conservation issues.I am pleased to see the
involvement of Camp Friedenswald in both lake organizations. They
are valued neighbors and I hope we can work
with them for mutual benefit especially a pet project of
mine... establishing a blue bird trail around the
lake. More about that in the Spring. Right now, lake water
levels have our attention and we have formed a sub committee
to address that issue. You may email me with your concerns and
observations and I will do my best to address them.We will continue
on- going dialogue with the Cass County Drain Commissioner and the
gentleman in charge of the dam who is also a member of our sub
committ ee and a lake resident. I would personally approach
the governor if we required her assistance but I don't
believe it will be necessary. To all summer residents, go with
God, see you soon. To Ron Ramsey, please come home....Shavehead
misses you.....to all remaining, please let your friends and
neighbors know if you are ok on a regular basis...Mrs. Geyer, call
me if I can help you with anything you need...and thanks again for
allowing me to be entrusted with the business of this fantastically
beautiful place. Sincerely, Marilyn McLane
