May 30, 2007 - Looking to "Rent" a home for the 4th of July week

Hi Everyone!

We are looking for a place to rent on the lake during the period of June 28th to July 8th. We have lived on the lake for over 20 years and are currently building a new home on Eby road. We "thought" we would be moving into the new place by Memorial day, and as it turns out, our new home won't even be ready by the 4th of July!!

We have family coming in from California, who have had their airline reservations booked for months!  So, we need to find a place for them to stay on the lake.  If you, or if you know of anyone who would be interested in renting their place during that time, or have any suggestions, please give us a call!

Thanks for your help!!

May 27, 2007 - Memorial Day 2007

In remembrance to those who have given their lives for our freedom..

Happy Memorial Day Weekend, Everyone!
Let us all remember the true meaning of this holiday,
and give "Thanks" to all of those
who have given their lives
fighting for our freedom.

Following is a message from our president:

For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary

May 15, 2007

Prayer for Peace, Memorial Day, 2007

A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America

On Memorial Day, Americans pause with solemn gratitude and deep respect for all our fallen service men and women who have given their lives for our country and our freedom.

Through the generations, the courageous and selfless patriots of our Armed Forces have secured our liberty and borne its great and precious cost. When it has mattered most, patriots from every corner of our Nation have taken up arms to uphold the ideals that make our country a beacon of hope and freedom for the entire world. By answering the call of duty with valor and unrelenting determination, they have set a standard of courage and idealism that inspires us all.

All Americans honor the memory of the lives that have been lost in defense of our freedom. Our Nation mourns them, and their example of strength and perseverance gives us resolve. We are also thankful to those who have stood by our service men and women in times of war and times of peace.

Today, the members of our Armed Forces follow in a proud tradition handed down to them by the heroes that served before them. They are protecting our Nation, advancing the blessings of freedom, and laying the foundation for a more peaceful tomorrow through service that exemplifies the good and decent character of our Nation. America is grateful to all those who have worn the uniform of the Armed Forces of the United States, and we will never forget their sacrifices for our liberty.

On Memorial Day, we honor all those who have fallen by remembering their noble sacrifice for freedom. We also pray for our troops, their families, and for the peace we all seek.

In respect for their devotion to America, the Congress, by a joint resolution approved on May 11, 1950, as amended (64 Stat. 158), has requested the President to issue a proclamation calling on the people of the United States to observe each Memorial Day as a day of prayer for permanent peace and designating a period on that day when the people of the United States might unite in prayer. The Congress, by Public Law 106-579, has also designated the minute beginning at 3:00 p.m. local time on that day as a time for all Americans to observe the National Moment of Remembrance.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim Memorial Day, May 28, 2007, as a day of prayer for permanent peace, and I designate the hour beginning in each locality at 11:00 a.m. of that day as a time to unite in prayer. I also ask all Americans to observe the National Moment of Remembrance beginning at 3:00 p.m., local time, on Memorial Day. I encourage the media to participate in these observances. I also request the Governors of the United States and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the appropriate officials of all units of government, to direct that the flag be flown at half staff until noon on this Memorial Day on all buildings, grounds, and naval vessels throughout the United States, and in all areas under its jurisdiction and control. I also request the people of the United States to display the flag at half staff from their homes for the customary forenoon period.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this fifteenth day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand seven, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-first.

 GEORGE W. BUSH

"Peace"

Author -  Amanda Bradley

Peace will come when people live
                                                                                                   In friendship, side by side,
                                                                                                  And cherish understanding
More than hatred, greed and pride.

Peace will come when people see
                                                                                                     All people as the same,
And no one has to live in fear,
                                                                                                     In ignorance, or shame.

                                                                                                Peace will come when people
Who are needy can reach out
                                                                                                      For shelter, food, or love,
And no-one has to do without.

                                                                                                 Peace will come when people
Learn to listen and to care
                                                                                                    About the rights and dignity
                                                                                                        Of people everywhere.

Peace will come when love and trust
                                                                                                    And kindness know rebirth,
And on that day all people
Will rejoice in peace on earth.

May 20, 2007 - 2007 "Adopt-A-Road" Cleanup Day Report

"14" Large Bags of Trash!

Road Cleanup Report

Saturday, May 19th,  Five individuals undertook the task of the road side cleanup along Union Road.
Many thanks to:
Marilyn McLane Fraider
Jeff and Ruth Parker
Mike Bosela
(And of course, Jack, who organizes this event for us each year, and didn't metion himself)

I am glad to report that there was less trash on Union Road than before! About 30% less.
Noted, the reduction of aluminum cans, however a significant increase in Styrofoam "coffee cups" / food trays,
and assorted fast food wrappers.
Leading collected items were: Bud Lite (The King of Beer) cans, McDonalds (The King of Fast Food) wrappers and beverage cups, Newport Cigarettes (The Leader of Bad Habits) boxed and Disposable Diapers (certainly not my favorite!).
"Most intersting" items picked-up were a "baking sheet", "Elkhart Truth mailbox", and a heavy "mud-flap"  many more "surprises" were encountered as well.

It was a beautiful morning with crispness in the air, and little droplets on the long grass from the evening before rain, the birds chirping, dogs barking, and small animals scurrying away for the collectors through the tall grass.

Hopefully, we can continue sponsor this community event, however, without additional people getting involved with this event, it will be short lived. People, we need your help, it took the five of us 1½ (some spent 2 hours) to collect Union Road from Calvin Hill Road to Peninsula Drive. Yes, there were 14 bags of trash collected on this road alone; however, Union Road is not the only road leading to Shavehead Lake.  As a community, I would like to have more people involved so we can expand our efforts to the other roads and lanes leading to our beautiful lake.

Please help support this community cleaning event, and please considering donating about 2 hrs. of your time next year in helping out with this event.
Thanks!
Jack DeLee
