June 11, 2007 - SLPA May/June 2007 Newsletter

May/June, 2007

Dear SLPA Members and Neighbors:
We invite your comments and input regarding anything of general interest to the peninsula and the lake. We especially request your attendance at the SLPA resident meetings held in May through September. The meetings start at 10 a.m. Michigan time at Harmon Park East. Our next meeting will be June 10. We are looking for nominations for the 2008 Board so please consider volunteering. The time commitment is only about 6 hours a year. Voting is at the July meeting.

Notice: Clean-up day for N. Peninsula Drive will be July 7. Please meet at the Flynns’ house at 9 a.m. With enough help, this will be quick and easy.

Fireworks Update
With the coming of warm weather, thoughts go to the 4th of July fireworks. Due to the official holiday being in the middle of the week, our spectacular show will be Saturday, June 30 at dusk this year. They will be held in generally the same place, at the north end of the lake, on the west side. Rain date is July 1.

We need a few volunteers to help clean up the next day following the fireworks.

The SLPA will again donate $400, but the funds are low from last year so we really need everyone to donate something. The SLA and SLPA are asking everyone to talk with their neighbors who don’t usually donate and give them some encouragement to do so. Checks should be made payable to Shavehead Promotions, and be sent Scott Knepple at 65324 Eby, Cassopolis, MI 49031.

What would the 4th of July weekend be without a flotilla? This year’s will start at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 30 at the north end of the island. Subject for this year is "Rockin Around The Lake". This year, everyone will also be able to cast their votes for their favorite boats "On-Line"!  We once again have some terrific prizes for the participants- for more information, and to register your boat, visit: http://shaveheadlake.realtownblogs.com/flotilla/

Meeting of SLPA and SLA Boards
In the spirit of new cooperation and a shared concern over many issues related to preserving our lake and property values, members of  the Board of Directors from the Shavehead Lake Peninsula Association (SLPA) and the Shavehead Lake Association (SLA) met at Dick Barton’s house on May 26 to exchange information and get to know each other.

It was agreed that the two Boards would meet in May each year but also increase communication year around. Thus, some SLA news will be in this newsletter on a regular basis.

Residents and members of both organizations are encouraged to visit the website for the latest on events, news, safety tips, and much more Visit www.shaveheadlake.com. There is a peninsula section of the website which will contain this newsletter and other news.

Dues Reminder
Please remit any outstanding 2007 dues (just $10) to Treasurer Jack Linhart. You can drop them off or mail to65359 E. Peninsula Dr., Cassopolis, MI 49031. Make checks payable to SLPA.

SECOND NOTICE: Unfortunately, we have some members which have not paid their dues since 2005. The SLPA Board is asking all those who are past due in remitting their association dues please make an effort to get current. Any member whose dues at two years past due will have their names removed from the SLPA roster and name plaque removed from the main board at North Peninsula Drive and Union Road.
Members have until June 30 to avoid being dropped from the rolls.
