My daughter and I were accepted to the advisory board for the Youth and Family committee led by Commissioner Vince
Boccard.
Commissioner Boccards plan was to serve the youth in the city ages 13 - 19, since he feels the city has plenty for the
older and younger kids, but feels this age group is under served. He suggested a sort of version of, "Pimp My Ride" and
the car club was born.
I went to area businesses to gather support and was incredibly pleased at how willing they were to help.
The first meeting was held at the city gym. No RSVP's were taken, so we had no idea how many kids would show up. We
hoped for at least 10. It was over 60 kids and parents that showed up for more information. We told them our plan
outline and they rushed the tables to sign up. It was really exciting to see the participation and interest.
The next meeting will be to pick a name for the club and decide on the cars (reposed from the police department) that the
kids will remodel.
Stay Tuned!
