The beaches of the Outer Banks are beautiful.  Every year millions of people come to experience this.  I have had wonderful, memorable vacations for 30 years, until my recent visit in September 2006.

My 32 year old sister-in-law, Kristina (Eena, as her 2 year old nephew called her) drowned as a result of a rip current.

Kristina's death was tragic and preventable.  We do not want any other family to experience what we went through that day.  Education on rip currents and water safety can help you have a wonderful vacation here in the Outer Banks. 

Please take a few minutes to educate yourself and your family.  This information has saved lives!

Be aware that even on low risk days, rip currents can exist.

Bring your cell phone and know your exact location at the beach:  In an emergency, to get the fastest response, a phone and address can save lives. 

Never swim alone:  Also have someone on shore watching you.

Educate yourself and your family on rip currents:  Read the "Break the Grip of the Rip" brochure and watch the video located in your rental house, hotel room or hotel lobby (let management know if the video is not available); review the information and links on www.eenaproject.com.
