If you use two computers, you need to designate one as your "Primary Computer." You will have this computer set to sweep the mail from your e-mail account (your POP account at your ISP) every time you hit "send and receive." The other computer should be set to "leave a copy of message on server." Finding the setting to "Leave Mail on Server will vary based on your e-mail software but something like the following should help:
-
Open Outlook
-
Click on Tools
-
From Drop Down Menu, select Services (or Accounts)
-
In Services, click on your Internet e-mail account and select Properties At the top, note the tabs.click on Advanced At the bottom of the box you will see "leave a copy of message on server"
-
Check the box if appropriate.

1. RE: Using Two Computers
I use a MacIntosh MacBook Pro and a Dell Desktop PC (only when I have to do so). A few months ago, all of my emails in my Mac inbox disappeared. Checking with Apple, I found they were erased and no longer available. By accident, I found them in Outlook Express on my PC. What I found out is that the Outlook mail program on the PC uses POP (Post Office Protocol) which erases the message on the server and stores it on the PC. The Mac is set up to use IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) which leaves the message on the server. I understand that Outlook can be set to use IMAP but I could not find out how to change it on Outlook Express which is what my Dell PC uses. Anyone know how to change Outlook Express? I decided to download the emails on the PC and Windows saved them to a file type that Windows cannot open (or at least I could not find how to open them - wonder why I use my Mac whenever possible). I run Windows on the Mac using Parallels but there is a contention problem between the two operating systems for the print function which I understand does not happen in VM Fusion which does not require printer drivers to be installed for Windows in addition to the drivers for the MAC.
