Shear Lunacy!

Saul Klein, CEO of both Point2 Technologies and InternetCrusade, and John Reilly, CEO of RealTown, were in the giving mood after Saul's a recent trip to the Great White North.

The two agreed to participate in a fundraiser for Prostate Cancer Research that revolves around the mustache. Here is the deal: If you don’t have one, you agree to grow a mustache during the month. If you have one, you have to shave it off and then grow it back.

Point2’s Aidan Rogers challenged fellow Point2 members to take part in the program.

“This November, I'm growing a moustache to help raise money for prostate Cancer research.  While some of the company already sport this stylish facial hair (yep, I'm looking at you Saul), I'd like to encourage every man in the company to join me in being clean shaven on “Mo”vember 1st, and spend the month growing and grooming your "mo".

Point2 ladies will get the chance to vote at the end of the month on who has the best mo, and prizes will be awarded for various categories of moustache.

Klein and Reilly lathered up and broke out the razors. Saul’s wife Janie, said she had never seen her husband without a mustache. And the fair-haired Reilly nearly bled to death removing his.

For Aidan, the story hits close to home.

“My granddad has prostate cancer. Every man over the age of 40 is at risk, and without ongoing efforts to raise awareness and funding, this disease will never be eliminated.”

Every year around 24,700 Canadian men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and about 4,300 die of the disease, making it the number one cancer threat to Canadian men.1 in 7 men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime.

The money raised by Movember is donated directly to the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada who will use the funds to create awareness and fund research across the country into prevention, detection and treatment, with a goal to ending the threat of prostate cancer.

This is a great thing you all are doing. My husband died in July from cancer and it is a terrible experience. Both the therapy and after his death. Just because it is one type of cancer doesn't preclude the fact that what may be learned will help all types of cancer. Thanks again for your efforts and I will vote @ the end. Linda

I admire your efforts on the project.

My husband has completed treatment within the last year and PSA is back to normal. It was very scarey and hard for him to deal with as we had just lost my mom from colon cancer within six months prior and she had lived with us for 2 years.

We all need to continue with making people aware of how important early detection is for recovery.

God bless you-

Thanks for the note Carolyn. Prostate Cancer is so common and yet little talked about.

I missed much of Mo'vember due to having spine surgery, but what a worthy cause guys !  It was strange seeing you after so many years sans your stashes, and I must say - you BOTH look much younger!!

Just as in Breast cancer awareness, I believe it is important to get the word out to all to get regular check ups, get your PSA tests, mamograms, it takes so little time, and an ounce of cure is worth a pound of prevention.  We all want our loved ones with us as long as possible, and surely you want to see your children, grand children and even great grandchildren grow up.

My mother is due to have cancer surgery on Jan 7th of 2009.  This is a rare form of cancer, but easily preventable if she had  regular Gynecology exams and pap smears.

It is so easy to put off those appts, but oh so very important for those you may leave behind.

Make THIS your New Years Resolution, schedule a check up with your Dr. NOW.

DO IT  for YOU and for those you love.

Hi Saul- Just saw the video.  I don't know that I'd recognize you.  I know you will be at Inman, in Jan.  I'm not going to that, but plan on attending REBarCamp, the day before.  If you're around (and the mustache is back), I'll look for you.  Would like to talk to you about Point 2 website.

So one of Saul's acts is to dis-honor promises made.

What a shame.

No wonder trust of institutions is at an all-time low.

Saul and Point2 made commitments and are not keeping them.

Hey Saul,

Just checked out your post!  I'm 43 years old and for whatever reason the Good Man Upstairs lets me get as far as looking dirty and unkempt but stops me from the ultimate goal of growing a real mustache.   Wish I could participate otherwise.

Rich if you get a chance I'd love for you to check out my blog.

Have a great day!

P.S.  I think your cause is a great one!  My father had prostate cancer about 4 years ago.  Fortunately the doctors caught it early and were able to remove it.  He's as good as he was before it!   So...keep up the up the good work, awareness is half the battle!
