Feb. 6, 2007
It's Feb. 6, 8:35 PM, and it's 47 degrees outside! Burr!!! I guess winter has decided that it's time to show up, and I actually pulled out my winter coat. I moved here in 1985 from WV, and I think it was 1992 before I bought a winter coat. I spent several years here without wearing a winter coat because I didn't need one. (I saved a fortune because I no longer had to buy snow suits, mittens, gloves, toboggans, etc. for my 3 children.) Sure, I wore sweaters, but only as a coat, never as a top. My daughter couldn't understand why I wouldn't buy her sweaters to wear to school. I think her blood thinned much sooner than mine.
When I was working in NYC, after spending a week here at home, I got to the Savannah airport and thought I had left my coat in St. Simons. Fortunately, it turned out to be in the car. Can you imagine NYC in the winter with no coat? Well, I've been here long enough to appreciate coats again. I've even bought my daughter a sweater or two. But today, my neice called me from WV. Their HIGH temperature there today was SEVEN (yes, that's right, 7) degrees! Makes this weather feel almost balmy! But I'm not giving up my coat. After all, we only have a few days a year to wear it. I want to get my money's worth out of it!
