Shrimp & Grits - Eat up Sailor!

Jekyll Island’s Shrimp & Grits Festival

                                                                         September 14 – 16, 2007

What in the world is more authentic southern cooking than Shrimp & Grits?  The only food that might rival that selection may be collard greens & ham hocks!   I don’t want to be negligent in not notifying you of the upcoming Shrimp & Grits Festival to be held in mid-September.  If sampling the cook-off entries for the very best shrimp & grits entry is not enough to draw you, throw in music, a golf tournament, shrimp boat tours and vendors with arts, crafts & antiques set up under the unparalleled moss draped oaks in the Island’s historic district.  Celebrity Chefs will be giving shows, and one of them is none other than Paul Deen’s baby brother, Uncle Bubba, who is the owner of Uncle Bubba’s Oyster House in Savannah.  The first time I ever-viewed shrimp & grits being served up in a champagne glass was on one of Paula Deen’s Food TV shows.  Now it has become the trendy item to offer at cocktail parties everywhere.  Somehow, probably by mistake, I was included in a holiday party last season at The Cloister Hotel and even they had shrimp & grits on their buffet table!  Need I point out, all the shrimp offered will be Wild Georgia Shrimp & not some farm raised product from who only knows where!

If you want to view more information on the event & check out the specials hotels are offering, see: www.jekyllisland.com/shrimpandgrits/

I sincerely hope you will give me a call if you have any questions on this event or if I may be of service.
