If you love birding, our season is here!

This is a Sanderling, who like many of us enjoys chasing receding ocean waves!

Prime birding season in the Golden Isles of GA has arrived as the summer heat begins to subside leaving us with wonderful weather. In my humble opinion, October and November offer some of the most pleasant times in the Southeast’s outdoors. From the end of summer through fall, hundreds of species of shorebirds are passing through on their way to warmer climes. In the Golden Isles, some 370 species of birds are available for viewing. I am putting a link below to the Georgia DNR, if you’d care to review the sites along this trail, with several of them right here in our locale.

If you have never experienced “spying on nature” in this way, an excellent introduction to the experience would be at the 6th Annual Colonial Coast Birding and Nature Festival coming up October 9-13 on Jekyll Island. For additional information you may visit:

Of course, if you do come to the Glynn County and the Golden Isles, I sincerely hope you’ll give me a call!

Are you coming yet?

Whether you are a sports enthusiast, golfer, racing fan, naturalist, shopper, and music & arts enthusiast or simply enjoy relaxation, the Golden Isles offer activities and events to entertain you and natural beauty to captivate you. The small town charm mixed with modern luxuries will suit even the most discriminating visitor. Look over just a small sampling of what's coming up the last quarter of this year & plan to come see us:
· 10/6/07 CoastFest
Hosted by the GA Dept. of Natural Resources, COASTFEST takes place @ Conservation Way in Brunswick right under the Lanier Bridge. From 10 - 4, the event has many educational & interactive components such as tours of a DNR Research Vessel, hands on visits with sea critters in touch tanks, snakes & other wildlife, historical interpreters & cannon firing demonstrations, natural trails & marsh walks. Entertaining programs, skits puppets and dancers are a favorite of children. Admission & Parking are FREE.
· 10/13/07 Brunswick Rockin' Stewbilee
See my 7/20/07 Post on this event in Downtown Brunswick for great family fun. Brunswick Stew competition, pooch parade, antique cars, 5K race, arts & antique vendors. Culminates with an evening concert featuring the Neville Brothers!
· 10/12 - 10/14/07 Birding & Nature Festival
5th annual festival on Jekyll Island offers a variety of entertainment & educational activities. Seminars & field trips highlight coastal GA's abundant natural beauty & wildlife. Unique pontoon & kayak trips, beach excursions & more should give birders an opportunity to enjoy this important regional bird area. Some free programs & events open to public. www.coastalgeorgiabirding.org
· 10/27/07 GA/FL Football Game in Jacksonville, FL
See my 8/31/07 post that highlights this annual event. BullDawg fans from all over the nation congregate on St. Simons Island and the mainland to enjoy the company of other loyal fans of GA's favorite college team. Tour busses depart to the game on Sat. & even if you don't care to attend the game, the team spirit is contagious. If you've never seen a grown man drop on all fours & bark like a dog, this is your opportunity. No kidding!
· Fall Crazy Golf Days - Coastal I-95 GA Golf Trail
Golfers who stay @ participating hotels on Jekyll, St. Simons & in Brunswick can play 8 different courses for the same reduced rate.
