This Mother’s Day morning arrived with tornado warnings for the area that actually did happen that Sunday afternoon. A tornado touched down in areas of St. Simons and Brunswick and did significant property damage, but thankfully no serious injuries or deaths as a result. Again, the Golden Isles of GA seems to live a charmed existence!

We only experienced power outages at my home and business, but some residents must be on the phone with their insurance company’s adjuster this morning! My assistant said she was in nearby Camden County by a friend’s pool without any evidence of bad weather or wind. 

 

Today is another beautiful Spring day--- lovely, clear skies and a delightful ocean breeze. 

Just this past weekend, our office entered into a local chili cook-off competition in the Village on St. Simons Island. I met one of the other competitors who had a booth right down from us who is the Head Chef at the Brunswick hospital known as Southeast Georgia Health System. On Sunday I read the weekend local newspaper which featured our hospital and the remarkable turnaround and the vast improvements in the last few years. In 2004, our facility was named Hospital of the Year in the large hospital category (151 or more beds) by the Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals. In addition to the Brunswick facility, there are also health care systems in 3 adjacent counties to further serve the region. 

 

Certainly, when considering a place to reside the ability to obtain quality health care is very important. If you or a friend or family members are considering a move to St. Simons or the Glynn County area, your health care needs should be accessible right here. Only 41 hotels and 17 restaurants in the United States met Mobil’s criteria to earn the coveted five-star standard this year and only 125 hotels made the four-star mark. The Lodge at Sea Island located on St. Simons Island and the Georgian Room restaurant at The Cloister both were awarded 5 stars in the 2008 Mobil Travel Guild ranking. In addition The Cloister Hotel and the new Spa at Sea Island were honored with a 4-star rating for this year.

 

Three other facilities in the Golden Isles earned 3-star ratings: The King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort on St. Simons Island, the Jekyll Island Club Hotel on Jekyll Island and the Lodge on Little St. Simons Island.

The Golden Isles of GA is definitely a premier destination and I personally hope you will look me up at Beachcomber Properties in the heart of the Village on St. Simons Island when you visit.
