• Jan. 31, 2008 - Who in the World can Resist a Yard Sale?

Who in the world doesn’t love a yard sale?  Well how about a yard sale that stretches across GA from Perry at I-75 all the way to Brunswick and I-95? On the weekend of March 14th thru the March 16th, the Golden Isles Parkway is the place to be. This is a grand opportunity to experience Southern hospitality in several Georgian communities and along the way meet some new friends. Please go to www.goldenislesparkway.com and read about this annual event held in the glorious Spring weather.

And you know I hope you’ll touch in with me when you get to Glynn County!

• Nov. 13, 2007 - Holidays are a time for sharing! Here are a couple of my favorite recipes.

My favorite dressing (and easy):
One 8 oz. Bag herb stuffing mix
One 8 oz. Bag cornbread stuffing mix
1 stick butter
1 cup each of chopped celery and onion
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of celery soup
2 beaten eggs and also 2 chopped boiled eggs
2 cans Swanson's chicken broth
Sauté celery and onion in melted butter until softened. Mix broth and soups together in skillet with sautéed vegetables. Pour over stuffing mix in large bowl. Add in beaten eggs and chopped boiled eggs. Bake at 350° for 30-40 minutes in greased 13 x 9 x 2 baking dish. Serve with gravy.
Note: This flavorful dressing slices up well, but is never dry. I actually prefer 16 oz. of cornbread, personally.
Cranberry Salad:
1 can cranberry sauce (whole berry or jellied-your choice)
3 Tbsp. Lemon juice
1 cup whipped cream
One 3 oz. Cream cheese, softened and whipped
¼ cup mayonnaise
½ cup sifted 4X sugar
1 cup chopped and toasted pecans
Add juice to cranberry sauce and crush together until well blended with fork and set aside. Combine whipped cream, cream cheese, mayo, 4X sugar till smooth and fold in chopped nuts.
Take small cups (the small drinking cups you may have seen for use in a dispenser in the bathroom) and divide the cranberry between 8 cups. Add the creamy mixture on top and then freeze. Unmold on lettuce leaf.
Note: The tangy, slightly sweet combination is very nice. Also being able to make well ahead is a good thing!
As our famous Georgia cook, Paula Deen, would say: "Best dishes from my kitchen to yours!"

• Oct. 26, 2007 - The Bulldog Fans have Landed!

Our business and home is on St. Simons Island in Southeast GA. Thousands of avid University of GA football fans come in several days prior to the annual GA Bulldog/FL Gators face off in Jacksonville this Saturday afternoon. The traffic is already getting heavy with many vehicles displaying team flags in their windows and lots of tags with that big black "G" on a red background. I just sat down to read yesterday's local newspaper and the Golden Isles tourism prediction is that this event brings an estimated $1 million a day to our area! Two of my three children run a barbeque restaurant and last year the GA/FL weekend rivaled the July 4th sales.
I believe it may have been Larry Munson, long-time announcer of Bulldog Football, who hailed St. Simons Island on this weekend as the World's Largest Cocktail Party. I am not attending the game, but will be in the office hoping to meet some of the visitors who are interested in masking this special place their home.
