• Aug. 7, 2009 - The Musical Classic, Grease, will be presented August 16th

JMM Productions had originally planned to show this rockin’n’rollin classic musical on July 19th, but had to reschedule due to rain. Please note that that on Sunday, August 16th, you can bring your blanket or lawn chairs to Neptune Park in the Village of St. Simons Island for a free movie presentation of Grease with Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta. The Park opens at 5 pm and the movie begins at dusk.   The plan for September 6 is the animated movie Ice Age which is a winner for children and adults alike. This one is a favorite of my two grandchildren, Amelia and Lance.

Please call on me if you have any questions or wish information on happenings in the Golden Isles or the current real estate market in Glynn County.

• Jan. 9, 2009 - Glynn County, GA can boast of having the 2nd oldest person in the World!

I keep telling you folks that Glynn County and the Golden Isles of GA is a great place to live and now I have additional “proof.” Our local newspaper recently featured a Brunswick resident who holds the record as the second oldest person in the world. Beatrice Farve of Brunswick celebrated her 113th birthday on January 2nd and the #1 record holder is another woman named Gertrude Baines, age 115, who resides in Los Angeles.   There is an incredible parallel between these two ladies---both are actually Georgia natives! Perhaps our wonderful weather is a key factor to long life---we are enjoying a beautiful 69° currently (1/9/09) and had high 70’s over the past weekend.

If this isn’t additional evidence that Georgia is a special place, I don’t know what is! Make your plan to come check us out and be sure to look me up in the Village area of historic St. Simons Island.

• Oct. 31, 2008 - The Annual GA Bulldog vs. FL Gators Football Classic is this weekend!

This annual rivalry between the University of GA and the University of FL football programs has been going on for enough years to earn the Bulldogs 46 recorded wins and the Gators 37 wins and 2 tied games!  Jacksonville, FL has long been the site for this game at the Municipal Stadium which is also the home of the Jacksonville Jaguars pro football team. While Jacksonville may be a neutral venue, it is located only 73 miles from Gainesville, FL which is the home town for the Gators. Athens, GA, home for the Bulldogs, is 342 miles north. These avid fans have made a science of tailgating in the parking lots and also at the Jacksonville Landing which faces the St. Johns River.

Even Wikipedia attributes the nickname “The Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” to this highly touted game. I am sure both schools sincerely wish that title was never born as that is not the kind of message any athletic program wants to convey. But, I know there will be a lot of parties and excitement over the game right here on St. Simons Island. Busses and campers and cars emblazoned with “Bulldawg” flags are arriving for lodging here as we are only 45 minutes away from Saturday’s game. Merchants, restaurants and other retailers are hopeful for a significant infusion into our local economy. Whether or not these businesses follow the game, we all welcome the fans which come every year and enjoy the products and services we render.

Game kick-off will be a 3:30 and televised if you are more inclined to watch in your recliner at home.

• Oct. 6, 2008 - The Golden Isles of GA offers numerous cultural outlets

Our area boasts a strong awareness of the arts with numerous galleries featuring our many local artists who have landed in this picturesque area. Cheryl Fisher, a REALTOR® in our office, is pleased to invite anyone to come view her husband’s watercolor display at the Brunswick Library. Bob Fisher is the featured artist for the month and his work will be on display through October 31st. Perhaps it is due to the natural beauty that is so prevalent with the marsh vistas, ancient, moss draped oaks and sandy beaches. Nevertheless, for a relatively small community, you can enjoy local artist’s talents, musical concerts and community theatre.

A local group, The Island Players, has  been bringing live theatre to Coastal GA since 1956. Their productions are held at the Island Casino Theatre in the Village on St. Simons Island and have given local talent a venue for so many years. I am including a link to the group’s website, if any of you would like to see what productions are planned and when. Their next production is Annie Get Your Gun beginning October 31-November 16th.

By the way, our real estate office is also located in the Village Area, and I would love to have you come by and check us out, too! We are so pleased to meet new friends and have area maps available. Our sister company, Beachcomber Buggies is right next door and the electric gem cars are a fun and easy way to cruise the Island.

• Oct. 2, 2008 - If you love birding, our season is here!

This is a Sanderling, who like many of us enjoys chasing receding ocean waves!

Prime birding season in the Golden Isles of GA has arrived as the summer heat begins to subside leaving us with wonderful weather. In my humble opinion, October and November offer some of the most pleasant times in the Southeast’s outdoors. From the end of summer through fall, hundreds of species of shorebirds are passing through on their way to warmer climes. In the Golden Isles, some 370 species of birds are available for viewing. I am putting a link below to the Georgia DNR, if you’d care to review the sites along this trail, with several of them right here in our locale.

If you have never experienced “spying on nature” in this way, an excellent introduction to the experience would be at the 6th Annual Colonial Coast Birding and Nature Festival coming up October 9-13 on Jekyll Island. For additional information you may visit:

Of course, if you do come to the Glynn County and the Golden Isles, I sincerely hope you’ll give me a call!
