• Aug. 26, 2009 - July Statistics for Glynn County

I really enjoy reviewing statistical data. It can give an accurate picture without individual interpretation. That being said, I went into our local MLS system to compare the number of residential sold transactions in the whole of Glynn County and the average sales price for those recorded transactions for the last 5 years and found the following:

July 2009 – 81 transactions with an average sold price of $229,431

July 2008 – 68 transactions with an average sold price of $240,917

July 2007 – 120 transactions with an average sold price of $332,635

July 2006 – 177 transactions with an average sold price of $301,751

July 2005 – 161 transactions with an average sold price of $302,317

The US Census website shows the number of Glynn County residential building permits for the months of July for the last 5 years as follows:

July 2009 - 32

July 2008 - 37

July 2007 - 59

July 2006 - 68

July 2005 - 73

• Aug. 19, 2009 - Jekyll Island Beach Music Festival & BBQ Bash 2009

Jekyll Island is the place to be this weekend for fun, music and great eats. This year’s event has the added plus of a barbeque competition along with the expected enjoyment of some of the best shag dancing in the Southeast!

Friday, 8/21, from 6-8 pm, reserve your spot at Morgan’s Bar & Grill where you can enjoy pre-concert entertainment complete with sample BBQ from Southern Soul Restaurant and wine tasting provided by The Still and Winery both of St. Simons Island. The concert begins at 8:30 pm at the convention center and the ever popular Swingin’ Medallions will of course be entertaining with such favorites as “Double Shot of my Baby’s Love” and more.

On Saturday the schedule is full with shag lessons from none other Glynn County’s Sheriff, Wayne Bennett and wife, and the barbeque competition tasting beginning at 1:00. The free concert on the beach is from 1-6 and then the evening ends again at the Convention Center with more great music featuring Jim Quick and Coastline. Put on your dancing shoes for the shag contest which begins at 10:15 that night.

• Aug. 7, 2009 - The Musical Classic, Grease, will be presented August 16th

JMM Productions had originally planned to show this rockin’n’rollin classic musical on July 19^th, but had to reschedule due to rain. Please note that that on Sunday, August 16^th, you can bring your blanket or lawn chairs to Neptune Park in the Village of St. Simons Island for a free movie presentation of Grease with Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta. The Park opens at 5 pm and the movie begins at dusk. The plan for September 6 is the animated movie Ice Age which is a winner for children and adults alike. This one is a favorite of my two grandchildren, Amelia and Lance.
