• Jun. 24, 2008 - Calling All Fishermen!
If salt water fishing is your thing, allow me to introduce you to St. Simons Island, GA. Whether you want to charter a boat, crab, fish from a pier or bridge, or just explore our vast estuary system-the Golden Isles is just the ticket.
Right off the Torras Causeway coming on to St. Simons Island, you will find the Golden Isles Marina which is a full service facility offering dry dock storage or wet slips, marine supplies, gas and oil, laundry facilities and plenty of dock space for transient traffic. Service to the local airport in Brunswick and courtesy cars are available for overnight guests. Local businesses are located there to aid you in exploring the wonderful fishing and tour opportunities our area has to offer. The marina is adjacent to the Inter Coastal Waterway, making it a perfect location for all boaters.
Adjacent to the Marina is a condo complex called Riverwatch where I have a gorgeous unit listed for sale. This unit even comes with 2 Schwinn scooters, so if you arrive by boat, you don't need to keep a car here! Your scooters will be available to take you where you need to go, and at 117 mpg, you can go quite a ways!
I have included below a link to view this phenomenal unit that boasts a separate lock-out unit for additional rental flexibility and potential. Come visit our delightful locale and try it on for size. You just may want to purchase your own Island retreat.
Click Riverwatch Condo to see this great property.

• Jun. 20, 2008 - Many Thanks for your Comments and Interest in Jekyll Island
My post of 6/18/08 received numerous comments that I would like to respond to and follow up on:
As you so rightly pointed out, I should have included both urls. As I stated in my initial post, personally, I think Jekyll Island is overdue for a face lift. I was initially opposed to the Linger Longer Development until I attended a presentation and saw the plans. I must admit, I was impressed by their commitment to the environment. All parking lots, sidewalks, etc. will be made of porous materials to allow for natural drainage. That was just one thing that sold me.
Last spring, I attended a conference at Lake Oconnee. During the evenings, I drove around the area and marveled in how beautifully it was being developed. I remember thinking that it was too bad that St. Simons had undergone such an onslaught of unplanned and unregulated development as opposed to this beautiful area that retained so much of its natural beauty. Then I found out that the developer of Reynolds Plantation was Linger Longer. If you haven't gone to that area, I encourage you to check it out.
The reality is that if we don't do something, Jekyll Island will be beyond repair. I am not in 100% agreement with this proposal (I'm very much opposed to the construction of time shares on Jekyll Island). But over all, I personally think that Linger Longer has put together a solid plan for the island as can be seen at www.RediscoverJekyll.com. I have no problem with opposing viewpoints as can be seen at www.SaveJekyllIsland.org. Discussion is good; it is important for the public to be aware and involved. |

• Jun. 18, 2008 - The Revitalization of the “Crown Jewel” of Georgia---Jekyll Island
Nobody disagrees with the opinion that many of structures and lodging on Jekyll Island need a facelift, but to what extent and where to position the redevelopment has definitely sparked a huge controversy.
If you have not heard of what’s going on in Southeast Georgia, last year the Jekyll Island Authority sought bids for the revitalization of the island and ultimately awarded the Linger Longer Communities Corporation with the project. Their redevelopment plan includes a new convention center, new hotels and rental cottages to give visitors to our State Park some much needed accommodation choices. From the instant the Linger Longer plans were presented, the dispute between supporters of the project and the opponents ensued. You can hear statements like “Greedy developers intent on creating a exclusive resort with prices out of reach of the average Georgian” or “that Jekyll has declined to a rundown and financially challenged glimmer of what it once was.”
I personally own a rental property on Jekyll Island and therefore have a vested interest in what happens there. I believe that the improvements are needed and I’m grateful that a company with the experience and track record of Linger Longer is willing to spend $350 million to make Jekyll a popular destination again. I am impressed that their plans include many new and innovative “green” materials and methods committed to conservation and ecology.
I sincerely hope that a satisfactory meeting of the minds between proponents and the opposition can soon be reached so plans can go forward. There is a link below if you care to read about the Linger Longer plans:

• Jun. 13, 2008 - Do you have plans for the 4th of July yet?
The Golden Isles of GA would be a great destination for fun, fireworks and an old fashioned 4th of July holiday celebration. Fireworks displays are held on Jekyll Island, St. Simons Island and on the mainland in downtown Brunswick. The annual Sunshine Festival is always a winner held in Neptune Park at the Pier/Village on St. Simons and begins on July 3rd with food and entertainment and runs thru Sunday. A annual and much anticipated tradition is the Arts and Craft Festival which features over a 100 local and Southeast artists displaying their wares. Bring your beach chairs or blanket and sit under the stars with friends and enjoy the fabulous firework display off the end of the pier.
Summer is my very favorite season on St. Simons and I feel very fortunate to call this delightful place HOME. |

• Jun. 9, 2008 - For the Golf Aficionado, the Golden Isles of GA is Tops!
If you search for golf in the State of GA, you will find on the site featured below of the 7 “hot spots” they make mention of, 4 of the 7 places are in Glynn County, Georgia!
Whether or not it’s an exclusive and private course such as you’ll find on Sea Island or one of the municipal courses available on the mainland in Brunswick, the choices for your game are varied and should prove an interesting golfing holiday. With Father’s Day coming up on the 15th, what better gift for that golfing enthusiast could you find?
If you need any information on planning a visit to the Golden Isles, please give me a call. I’m always excited to share the Beachcomber Lifestyle with new friends. |
