Hi,
</p>
<p>
Gabriella West wrote in another discussion -
</p>
<p>
"When I contacted my MLS Board to ask why they don't make software compatible for a Mac I was told that there are simply not enough Mac users who are Realtors."
</p>
<p>
For any MLS Vendor who offers their MLS in a web browser, there is no excuse in 2009 for it to not work in all modern web browsers. What do I mean by "modern web browsers"? Web browsers that have come out since about 2001 - Internet Explorer 5.x and higher, Firefox for both Windows and Mac, Safari, Netscape Communicator (now no longer being made), and more. (Now stand-alone software that has to be installed on your personal computer may be another story, depending on the code they used to write it in. But few MLS's distribute stand-alone software on CD to all members any more.)
</p>
<p>
Goodness, the Web is neither owned by Microsoft nor Apple. It is the Web... and is computer platform independent! Yet that is the common story put out by lazy MLS developers that "there just aren't enough Mac people to worry about"... usually because they don't want to put in the time or spend the resources to make their MLS work in all browsers - not because it couldn't work! Computer platform issues should not be a hinderance to any good web designer (which they now need to include on their MLS technical staff.) All top web designers today know that a site has to "play" properly in all of these modern browsers - and they even test new sites in all of these to make sure that every visitor has basically the same surfing experience regardless of which browser is being used. (Gee, even Point2 finally got it together to make their subscriber back-end finally work on a Mac. So if need be, get your MLS vendor to talk to them to understand how they were able to recently accomplish this.)
</p>
<p>
Furthermore, as Internet Explorer loses more market share, (the last I saw, it was down to around 75%), it will become more important for every MLS to recognize that the end-user is the one who decides which browser to use - not them!
</p>
<p>
Pretend to be a Windows user and ask your MLS if it will work in Firefox for Windows. If the answer is "no", then ask why not? (Don't say you're a Mac user - it will only put a chill up their spine as most of them have never touched a Mac in their lives and panic at the thought. Ha!) Just say that you prefer to use Firefox on your Windows computer since it is superior to IE. Then press them for when it will be available in Firefox for Windows. Guess what? If it will "play" in Firefox for Windows, it will probably now "play" in Firefox on your Mac. :-)
</p>
<p>
We had the same problem initially here at MRIS which covers all of the Washington/Baltimore region. It was created in .NET (a Microsoft product). Initially, it would only play properly in IE. Yet, as a Mac user since 1989, when I pointed out to them that right now at Borders book store, in the computer book section, on the shelf of "how to books" on .NET, there was a book about how to create cross-platform solutions in .NET that one of their "techies" could buy that very afternoon, MRIS in about 2 weeks made their solution accessible to Mac users in either Firefox or Safari. Sure, we still have a glitch now and then when they upgrade something, until we Mac users again point out that new problem. But they are usually quick to respond and fix it now.
</p>
<p>
So press the point with your MLS or your local REALTOR Association. Most MLS's are "cash cows", bringing in HUGE profits if your local association still owns it. They have the money to fix this right now. So you need to now instill the desire in them to fix it! Don't take "no" for an answer!

I am looking for someone knowledgeable about VMWare (Virtual Machine)
</p>
<p>
I have a Mac Book Air and have installed VMWare in order to run Windows on my Mac, specifically for TP.
</p>
<p>
I would like to re-allocate how much disc space is allocated to running Windows but can't quite figure out how. IF I have to back up the data I have, then uninstall and reinstall VMWare, will I even be able to dictate the disk space allocated to running the Windows XP program? I am not even sure I am asking this properly.
</p>
<p>
Glad to find a MAC group!
</p>
<p>
Thanks for your help

I have NOT snyced my blackberry since I got my Mac in January.

<p>
Who is using which 3rd party app.
</p>
<p>
I will eventually get an Iphone but not yet, still learning to many things about the Mac.
</p>
<p>
Seems like their are 2 apps and some folks like one over the other and some are using both to get all the data.
</p>
<p>
Can I say shame on BB for not doing an app for us Mac users.

Anyone know how to send email messages to several people in a group with the greeting line personalized? I send a lot messages to small groups, some for marketing purposes and rather than the offensive give away line that explains that the recipients are unknown I want the receivers to feel that this message was written to and for them. In other words I want to be able to merge print my group email messages. I recall doing this in the past but I don't know how to do it now.
</p>
<p>
Is it possible to do?
</p>
<p>
thanks,

I am currently using a Coldwell Banker Gundaker form manager system in St. Louis. Before I went to CBG, I used FormsRUs on my Mac. I would like to use them again; there are only a few forms that I would need to use CBG's program.
</p>
<p>
FormsRUs has a program that can be downloaded to your desktop. The problem is that the program is not available in St. Louis. Apparently, they have only a couple of agents in St. Louis who use Macs and are interested in their program. They only need 25 agents in St. Louis to justify the expense. If you haven't used them, I urge you to visit their site, www.formsRUs.com.
</p>
<p>
You can use their program on the internet, however. I would like to know how many Mac users in St. Louis would be interested in their desk program. Please email me at ronaldgorman@me.com or call me at 314-570-5125.

Folks, I loaded the beta Windows 7 yesterday onto my Mac under Parallels and I have NEVER had these speeds before. It was like a brand new computer on a T1. Just sharing the great experience. I am always looking to reduce my use of windows and still have about 4 programs that are not compatible to my mac. Even though it is beta I believe for productivity I will be using TP8i in Windows 7 for now. Still looking for that great DocuSign equivalent for mac.

I just started a discussion group for Iphone users. There are so many apps available and I am certain that there are many more than the few that I use that would be great tools for real estate agents.

I would appreciate your input.

Hi all,
</p>
<p>
I am looking for ideas about a scanner. I'd like one that can scan alot
</p>
<p>
of pages at once. How do you guys scan? I have a 4-in-1 machine
</p>
<p>
but it only scans one page at a time. And with purchase agreements
</p>
<p>
being 15 pages that is a pain. So, what are you doing in this situation?

Thanks,

I've been seriously looking at getting a MacBook Pro now that the prices have dropped but I don't really want to spend the $349 for the protection plan. I assume its worth it but I didn't purchase a warranty with my ThinkPad laptop and it lasted three years without needing repair.</span>

Hello everyone.
</p>
<p>
I went for the 15" Mac Book Pro the day they dropped the price $300. It is awesome. Thought you might like to know that After adding Parallels 4, I elected to go with the Final Release candidate of Windows 7 (I figured why put an old windows platform on my new machine)
</p>
<p>
Not a glitch. Windows 7 is working like a charm.
</p>
<p>
Of course, It would be great if we could just run Mac period, but ut is what it is.

Periodically, there has been discussion about when there will be a Mac Tablet. My techie son has just told me that there will be one in the fall of this year. He didn't know any of the specs (i.e. price) but only that it is definitely coming. That will be great news for us Mac users.
