My name is Rick Borden and I live work and play on Big Sandy Lake. My wife Leane and I were out for dinner one night last week just before Memorial day weekend and I happened to have my camera with me and caught this sunset off of the beach of Hillcrest Resort. They are located in Webster Bay and I wanted to share this with you. If you are looking for a place to vacation this is the only authentic resort left on the lake by which I mean they have rustic log cabins for rent. Here is the sunset I saw last week.

From the Clubhouse, set on a hill, you have a full view of #1 going out and #9 coming in. They are two of the more open holes, but #1 will immediately demand your attention as large ponds guard the tee shots.
Choices are required on all subsequent shots to the green on this double dogleg hole. Wetlands and a small pond will determine your best angle and length to approach the green, which is set into a hillside.
There will be a great variety of approach shots used for Hole #1. Plus some interesting small chips/pitches are required off the varied terrain if you miss this green.

Big Sandy lake has some of the best Sunsets I have ever seen and I will use this platform to share them with all of you. Let me introduce my self I am a Real Estate Broker in McGregor Minnesota. I live on Big Sandy lake with my wife Leane she has blessed me with being my wife for nearly 25 years as of July 10th 2008 will be 25 years.

Ice out on Big Sandy Lake this year went a little longer than it usually does this year it went out on May 30Th in the afternoon last year it went out April 20Th a full 10 days later.
This year with the Ice going out so late many wonder how it will affect our Opening Fishing coming up this weekend?
Does the Ice have any affect on the Fish?
Will the Walleye be done with the Spawn?
How does the Water temp affect the Fish?

McGregor Minnesota 55760 Aitkin County ~ 2008 Opener Fishing
My name is Rick Borden I live on Big Sandy Lake and I am a Real Estate Broker in the McGregor Lakes area the reason I tell you this is I am looking forward to Fishing this year with my 2 Boys and a very good friend of mine Ken Kroll and his son Mike who is 15. Each and every year I get really excited for the opener of fishing... I really enjoy spending time with our boys on the lake and this year is no different the weather is looking like it should hold out for us and we will hit the lake with plenty of energy looking for those Big Walleye and some Slab Crappie. I will tell you some of my favorite memories come from sitting around the Fire pit watching the coal base and telling stories from past trips we have made together. Big Sandy Lake is real close to my heart for many reasons I started coming here to Big Sandy when I was just 6 years old and I am 43 now.... My Uncle Dick Borden had a place in Davis Bay on Big Sandy Lake we used to stay at a Resort called Kare Phree Pines now called Big Sandy Lodge and Resort. I thank my Uncle Dick for this because if it were not for him I would not be in Real Estate or have a Home on Big Sandy Lake I have much to be thankful for!!
Fishing on Big Sandy Lake for Walleye is a bit of a challenge the lake is full of structure and is nearly 10,000 acres of water with all the other tributaries that run in and out of Big Sandy. I will be fishing the Pier 65 Bridge and the Flowage going out of Big Sandy the Walleye like the shallow water and are just finishing spawn by this time of the year! Slab Crappie are often caught this time of the year as well.
Big Sandy Lodge and Resort has a Big Fishing Tournament on Opener weekend I think it is a great time they pay out 100% of the entry fee's and you get a real cool hat too! You must sign up by 12am the night before to enter.
Good luck to year this 2008 opener... Remember take a kid Fishing!
