Plan a Vacation Now

Jun. 20, 2008

Your work should serve your life, not your life serve your work.  So, unless you are a workaholic and you really want to work through the spring, summer and fall without a vacation plan to step away from your work for at least seven days in row.

I don’t care how bad your business is or how broke or in debt you are.  The vacation will help you get your life back.  If you are struggling financially then plan an in town vacation; stay home and sleep in, read, walk and exercise, volunteer, visit relatives or friends.  There are lots of inexpensive options.

I don’t care how busy you are.  If you are that busy, congratulations you can afford to step away and have someone cover for you.  If you are busy but you are not making sales and your listings aren’t selling then you need the vacation to regenerate your creativity and your energy.

This isn’t idle advice.  You need to step away to examine and re-examine your business and your life.  If stepping away makes you fearful of what you will see, think and feel, it might be best for you to stop avoiding and start addressing.

Enough said, except, if you have not taken at least seven days in a row off already this year and you don’t have it planned yet, do it right now.  Open up your calendar and choose the week.  You and everyone you care about in your life is very likely to be very grateful you did.
