Just Throw Them Out |
A Client who sells a lot of property herself (over a hundred sales per year), owns two offices and is opening two more this year told me that she is always feeling overwhelmed because her desk is full of articles she wants to read and ideas she wants to pursue.
I asked her how long it had been that way. She said, for over twenty years. I started laughing and told her to get a few cardboard file boxes and put all those things in it.
(I started making fun of her but it took her a moment to catch on.) I told her to put these valuable papers in the file box but don’t put the cover on it and don’t put it far from her desk. That way she can always see what’s in there and it will be close at hand.
Then I shared with her that I have fourteen of those boxed in my office and countless more in closets, attic and basement.
Even just the idea made her begin to imagine what she would accomplish if she just got this valuable trash out of her immediate environment.
I warned her not to look through them. Just box them. I pointed out that in the next thirty days there would be lots more new ideas and that her best ideas are the ones she implements immediately. There is more too but this is just a blog and you get the idea.
