The Easiest Thing in the World

Apr. 30, 2009

In the middle of a sweet dream, the alarm goes off.  I spring (literally, I am in quite good shape) out of bed and get to it quickly to limit the chances it will wake Chava.  (I purposely put it across the room so I have to get out of bed to turn it off.

The easiest thing in the world is to crawl back into bed.  I’m still sleepy enough I can probably get right back into that dream; or so says my mind.

There is moment of decision.  And I decide to exit the bedroom.  Quietly, close the door.  I’ve already put my workout clothes in my bathroom so I can relax and watch a little morning news and sports as I get ready and give Chava an extra ten or fifteen minutes to sleep.

It’s the easiest thing in the world to do what’s easy.  It only takes a little more effort to start moving in the direction of what is best for me.  And once I start moving in that direction it becomes effortless to continue.

Two or three hours later we are back from our workout.  Victory over the moment is never minor.  Those habits shape our lives every day; usually many times a day.
