Hello OHS Nostalgia Fans,
I happened upon the enclosed photo while digging through boxes of stuff that never seemed to have been thrown out. It is a photo of the first grade class at Washington School taken in 1947, probably in May or June of that year. I have been going crazy trying to match up names with the people in the picture. So far I have only gotten this far:
Front row: no idea for any of them
2nd row: Jim Worden (that was an easy one), maybe Joanne Petrella, Fred Swensen, ?, Donald Tompkins, maybe Margo Traino, Frank Berlin.
3rd row: Sammy something or other, Terry Campabasso, ?, ?, ?, maybe Mary Pat Farrell, Bob Merrit.
4th row: maybe Jack Donahue, ?, ?, Margret Marino, Jeff Abbraities, ?.
If anyone can identify anyone I couldn’t, or have made an error, let me know.
Jim Worden
aka Big Duck
And here's a 3rd Grade photo sent by Terry Campabasso. Teachers are Miss Montaldo and Mr. Carpenter - nice tie ;-).That looks like Terry next to Charles Halsted. Terry says that they originally went to Roosevelt School but for some reason the class went to Washington School for a year or two.

Jim;
Here are some names to fill in some blanks that i THINK are correct:
Row 1: 2 from left - maybe Norm Perry
Row 2: 5 from L - Joan Townsend; 6 from L - Ann Marie Eggstein
Row 3: 3 from L - Dave Neville
Not sure but think the school name was Roosevelt that was up towards the Camp Woods on Croton Ave.
Wasn’t Washington more near the corner of Croton and Dale Ave, more down toward the public library and across from the deli, maybe called Baiders (sp ???), where we could get a “railroad” sandwich IFF one had a partner to split the other half of the loaf?
Some including me, attended Roosevelt thru grade 4, Washington for 5 &6, and the HS for 7'th which may have been the first and only time 7'th went to OHS (obviously before the jr. high was added.)
This is per my dim memory and welcome more lucid additions and corrections.

Okay, after prompting from Bev, I finally got around to looking at this shot. Sorry it took so long, Bev! Anyway, my thinking is this can't be Washington School. Gotta be Roosevelt. The year's probably right. That's me in Row 2 for sure but my records say I was in Roosevelt from 1946-49 (K-3rd), Washington for one year (1950 - 4th grade) and then Park 1951-53 (5th-7th grades). 8th was in OHS and I moved to Montrose to go to Hen Hud in 1954 summer. Row 3 right side is definitely Anne Marie Eggstein and I don't recall her ever going to Washington, right? Also same row middle, blonde girl with pigtails is Betty Ann Kuchenmeister. She was a good friend of Anne Marie. Also, last row left end......isn't that Ricky Fletcher? Great photo!!
