Dear Classmate,
After almost two years of discussion and build-up, it’s now time to finalize our plans for the 50th Reunion of the OHS Class of ’59. I hope you are well, and able to attend.
Our reunion is scheduled for the weekend of October 9th through the 11th, in Ossining. The schedule is:
Friday 10/09/2009 AM Golf Outing
Saturday 10/10/2009 6:00PM Cocktails & dinner at Travelers’ Rest
Sunday 10/11/2009 10:30AM Memorial Service at Engel Park
Tom Kane is the organizer of the Golf Outing, so please contact him with questions (or complaints). He can be reached at thomasjkane@taosnet.com, or 575-770-3141. Hudson Hills Golf Course is on Croton Dam Road.
We’ve left Friday night as open time, to accommodate travelers, and those who want to convene in smaller groups. On Saturday, if you haven’t been to Ossining in a while, you might take advantage of the glorious Autumn weather to tour some old haunts, and revisit some of your memories. Other reunion classes speak very highly of Travelers’ Rest as a venue as well as a restaurant; if you don’t recall, it is located on Route 100. And Engel Park, where we held the 40th Memorial Service, is located on the river, proximate to the railroad station.
Below is a Registration Form, as well as a list of hotels. Please register as soon as possible, so we can finalize head counts. And if you cannot attend, will you please notify us, so we know we haven’t missed you. I hope you can attend, and look forward to seeing you in October.
Best regards,
Wayne

Thanks to Jack Donohue for suggesting a noontime walk around Ossining on Saturday of Reunion Weekend. Looks like many of the Reunion attendees will be sowing up in their finest Nike's. Jack said:
Hello Reunion-Goers. I'd like to add a suggestion for a Saturday day-time activity, and that is to form a group to take a walk around Ossining, revisit some of the old haunts, have lunch somewhere that existed 50 years ago if that's possible, and generally see and comment on the current state of our old town.
We had a group do this at our previous reunion and had a great time. And I think we agreed that Ossining looked pretty good. We even had lunch at Sellazo's, cooked by none other than famed B-League softball pitcher Izzy Sellazo, who some of us remembered batting against with great success 40 years before.
The highlight of the walk though was the easy conversation, and diverse reminiscences that we shared, and I'm sure this would be the case again.
If you'd like to take the walk, let's meet at the parking lot behind the High School at noon Saturday, and start from there. If you have comments or suggestions please send them out.
See you then, and hopefully at dinner Friday night (at the Briars?)
Jack
Be sure to bring your camera for the walking tour!

Tom Kane and Augie have organized a golf day on the Friday of Reunion followed by some fun and mirth at the good ole Briar's (unfortunately, since I was only 17 when we graduated I never was able to drink at that fine establishment ;-) Say, what was the difference between the Briar's and the Cozy Tavern - never could tell after a few torpedos!
From Tom Kane --
Sorry, wrong date for the golf outing…it’s the 2nd. Nah, it is really the 9th of October, really!
Class of 59”,
I’m looking forward to seeing you at our reunion.
This notice is just a reminder that we have planned a Golf Outing for Friday October 2nd at Hudson Hills Golf Course…See attached Brochure. Thanks to Augie listed below are some details. Feel free to contact Cale Avila for more info if needed
Cale Avila,General Manager Hudson Hills, Golf Course Office (914) 864-3002 Fax (914) 864-3003
The following have signed up to play:
Augie Disisto, Rich Daniel, Rich Parthemore, Gary Kirkman, Mical (formerly Koocher) and husband Neil, Kathy (formerly Sisley) and husband Michael, Tom Kane, Mike Doorley, Norm Starler, John Reilly.
Valerie Moos will be our designated Cheerleader, Jay Corsetti is my Caddie, and Angelo Vaccaro has volunteered to do anything within reason.
We would love to get more to join us. It’s going to be lots of fun, so let me hear from you if you’re interested.
NOW!
How could we be in Ossining on a Friday night, and not informally assemble for a few pop’s at the Briar’s; they also serve dinner… We need a little warm up for Saturday night.
If you’re looking for me, and some other friends, you’ll find us there.
Tom Kane
Wayne and I could not tell what was the exact date Tom expected us to meet at the Briar's ;-)
So, Wayne and I decided to arrive early, as you can see from the photo below. Hey, where were the rest of you guys and gals?
Well, we will see you there Friday the 9th around 7 to 7:30 PM.

Thanks to Carol (Kaplan) Smith for sending the following prelude for our upcoming 50th --
THE CLASS REUNION
Every ten years, as summertime nears,
An announcement arrives in the mail,
A reunion is planned; it'll be really grand;
Make plans to attend without fail.
I'll never forget the first time we met;
We tried so hard to impress.
We drove fancy cars, smoked big cigars,
And wore our most elegant dress.
It was quite an affair; the whole class was there.
It was held at a fancy hotel.
We wined, and we dined, and we acted refined,
And everyone thought it was swell.
The men all conversed about who had been first
To achieve great fortune and fame.
Meanwhile, their spouses described their fine houses
And how beautiful their children became.
The homecoming queen, who once had been lean,
Now weighed in at one-ninety-six.
The jocks who were there had all lost their hair,
And the cheerleaders could no longer do kicks.
No one had heard about the class nerd
Who'd guided a spacecraft to the moon;
Or poor little Jane, who's always been plain;
She married a shipping tycoon.
The boy we'd decreed 'most apt to succeed'
Was serving ten years in the pen,
While the one voted 'least' now was a priest;
Just shows you can be wrong now and then.
They awarded a prize to one of the guys
Who seemed to have aged the least.
Another was given to the grad who had driven
The farthest to attend the feast.
They took a class picture, a curious mixture
Of beehives, crew cuts and wide ties.
Tall, short, or skinny, the style was the mini;
You never saw so many thighs.
At our next get-together, no one cared whether
They impressed their classmates or not.
The mood was informal, a whole lot more normal;
By this time we'd all gone to pot.
It was held out-of-doors, at the lake shores;
We ate hamburgers, coleslaw, and beans.
Then most of us lay around in the shade,
In our comfortable T-shirts and jeans.
By the fiftieth year, it was abundantly clear,
We were definitely over the hill.
Those who weren't dead had to crawl out of bed,
And be home in time for their pill.
And now I can't wait; they've set the date;
Our 55th is coming, I'm told.
It should be a ball, they've rented a hall
At the Shady Rest Home for the old.
Repairs have been made on my hearing aid;
My pacemaker's been turned up on high.
My wheelchair is oiled, and my teeth have been boiled;
And I've bought a new wig and glass eye.
I'm feeling quite hearty, and I'm ready to party
I'm gonna dance 'til dawn's early light.
It'll be lots of fun; But I just hope that there's one
Other person who can make it that night.

Hi OHS Class of '59
Recent studies have shown beyond a reasonable doubt that more weight is lost in the 5 months prior to the 50th high school reunion than at any other time in a person's life cycle.
The Reunion Committee has therefore decided to conduct a Biggest Loser contest in the following categories:
1. Diamond - estimate the total number of pounds lost by all participants in the contest. Someone please remember to bring a calculator!
2. Gold - the person losing the most pounds between 5/15/09 and the evening of the reunion dinner. To be eligible, participants must notify Wayne or Doc of their exact weight as of 5/15/09. Those not giving such notice will be moved to the Platinum category
3. Platinum - the person losing the most weight based on their truthful statements recorded at the sign-up desk the evening of the dinner.
There will be one more contest, known as the Biggest Liar contest. Rules will not be published and are within the sole discretion of the Reunion Committee ;-).
To get the ball rolling, let me admit that my starting weight is 200 pounds. Now, some of you may recall that I was rather thin during my high school years. Somewhere during my sophomore year of college I had a growth spurt and reached a height of 6 foot four inches, so the extra 30 pounds is hardly noticeable.
I am shooting to win both the Gold prize and the Biggest Liar prize.
Looking forward to seeing you all in October.
P.S. If you haven't yet sent us a short bio of your life after graduation, please send to Wayne or me. We are posting them to the class blog at
Doc
Our first contestant is Tom Kane who posted the following note. After reading Tom's note, I decided to bring along a Bible and require contestants to place their hand on it when reporting their weight loss at the sign-up desk ;-)
"You’ll probably find this quite amazing, but I’ve been able to hold my weight to exactly what it was when I left OHS…250 lbs. I welcome the challenge…looking forward to seeing you all in October."

Travelers' Rest - the scene of our 50th Reunion
Classmates,
Well, here we are, in our 50th Reunion year! To me, the years have flown by, and I recall (some) of our high school days as if they were yesterday. I hope the memories are as fond for you, and that we’ll be able to create some new ones in October.
I guess this is the first official notice of our reunion. It is to be the weekend of October 9th through the 11th, in Ossining. The schedule is:
Friday 10/09/2009 Open time
Saturday 10/10/2009 Cocktails and dinner at Travelers’ Rest
Sunday 10/11/2009 Memorial Service
The estimated expense is $80.00 per person; this covers Saturday night, Sunday morning, and any incidental expenses, such as disc jockey, memorial flowers, mailings, etc. Travel and lodging are, naturally, personal expenses. A list of local hotels and motels is attached.
I don’t know yet if there is a home football game for that Saturday—the schedule won’t be released until February. If so, we’ll try to include a homecoming event. We’ll also try to coordinate some tours for those who are interested.
Terry DiGiacomo, Steve Gardner, Steve Zinner, Carol Roberts, Doc and I have been organizing things, so far. We’ll also need a couple of local people to help as we get nearer the dates. Please let me know if you’re interested. E-mail capability is important, since distance precludes any face-to-face meetings.
More information will be forthcoming as we progress, but for now, we need to know if you will attend, and if you will be bringing a guest. No money need be committed yet (probably in May), but WE DO NEED YOUR RESPONSE for planning purposes. So, please call, write or e-mail.
Thank you, Happy New Year, and stay well!
Wayne
