To Wayne, Our Reunion Committee And Fellow Classmates,
This past weekend having members of our class of 1959 together, in some cases for the first time in decades, is a highlight for me and one that I will always remember and hold close to my heart!
It was a real pleasure serving with you and the rest of our remarkable "Reunion Committee".
Also, it was wonderful talking, hugging and reminiscing with each of you and renewing friendships that have lasted, not only from OHS, but for some of us, since kinder garden at Roosevelt School.
My heart felt thanks to all of you that attended and for your love, warmth, and genuine caring that you showed for each other.
Those of you that could not attend, we missed you and wished you could have been with us...it was a weekend that will be hard to forget. However, you were there with us in our thoughts.
Saturday night: the dinner, the slide show and the dancing...it doesn't get much better than that!
The Memorial Service Sunday morning gave us the opportunity to remember our departed classmates.
The hardest thing for me to do after the service was to say good bye...I wanted to hold on to the moment...because I knew that this might be the last time all of us would be together.
Thank you.
Terry (Campobasso) DiGiacomo

I too, felt the letdown on Sunday.

Subject: Reunion-a view from out on the frontier
To: The class of ‘59
For most of us, Sunday afternoon consisted of a long drive or plane ride home, giving us time to think about all that happened over a very quick 2 or 3 days back in our hometown. To me it felt like we were once again “lost in the 50’s”: Same people, same music, same town!
Yet they tell us that you can never go home again! It’s because nothing ever stays the same. And they’re right in one sense - things really do change. The town changed and we all changed to some degree: less hair, a little bit heavier, a little slower going up & down stairs, glasses needed for those menus, etc. But I felt that our basic personalities were still there if you looked beyond these physical changes. We listened to one another, joked, laughed and everyone seemed to have a kind word and concern for others.
At every get-together that weekend in October, everyone looked genuinely glad to see each other again. It was a weekend in which the rest of the world and all our other problems were pushed aside. We got to learn about a some of our classmate’s worlds - some very different from when we knew each other on a daily basis so many years ago. Yet we also found we shared many common experiences, hopes and fears after we all went our separate ways.
Since graduation we have lived in many places and held many different jobs. But listening to the weekend discussions, we all seem to have finally settled down; contentedly in most cases. The many years of thinking and planning have brought us to where we are and who we are. Did we all turn out great and live up to our full potential as we were urged to do at graduation? Maybe, maybe not - it depends on your definition of what great is. Certainly not everyone turned out to be President, very rich or a Rock Star. But great is also measured in many other ways: a great movie, a great meal, hike, vacation, ski run, tennis match and so on. This is what I heard from so many of you; that along life’s way we all experienced these “little” great things and as a result we seem genuinely content with ourselves.
There was also a glimpse into our own mortality on Sunday morning when we tossed carnations into the Hudson to commemorate our fallen classmates. We know another reunion will probably bring a few more losses. We still don’t know why.
I don’t know if I got to talk to everyone, but I think I did get to meet most of you if even for a brief moment. It was a very pleasurable and nostalgic time. Thanks to everyone for a wonderful time and thank you all for being there.
So, please keep in touch. We don’t have to know that you had breakfast on the patio this morning, but would like to hear about significant events in your life and any great adventures you may have had.
P.S. Yes Margot, I still owe you a drink!

Dear Classmates,
I thought of you reunion weekend and wish that I could have been there to share it with you.
When the OHS card with all the signatures arrived it made me relive the spirit of our class, filled me with gratitude and energized me in my determination to be well and strong enough to attend the next reunion. I am enjoying the blog posts and photos, and my dear friend Elly Kaufman Miller telephoned me a detailed description of the weekend which sounded absolutely enchanting.
Warmest regards and heartfelt wishes for everyone's health,
Mary Lou Puglia Moran

Hi Everyone, So glad to hear that the reunion was such a huge success. Wish I could have been there to enjoy it with you all, but since I couldn't, the very next best thing came in the mail. What a really nice thing to do....send out cards to everyone who could not attend, with the signatures of everyone who could. Thank you so much...I treasure it. Thank you for thinking of me. Anyone who feels like writing to me....feel free please....it is wonderful to keep in contact. Best wishes and my prayers to everyone else who could not attend due to poor health. Love, Eileen

Wayne and the Reunion Committee.
First (1st), I must say that you all did a great job. I hope that we can have another class reunion or an occasional get together, sooner than later, as we all are getting older.
My wife and I have a great time !!! Over time I have lost contact with many of my classmates and friends, but this reunion brought back many good memories we all had in our school years.
Until we all meet again.
Health and Happiness.

To my 1959 Ossining High classmates.
Today I received a card in the mail with all of your signatures on it. I
want to thank you all,
it means a lot to me. I wanted so much to be there at our reunion, but it
wasn't meant to be. All the other reunions I either couldn't get the time
off or I didn't have the money or both. I've been following our classes
website since it started, I think.
I'm doing well, but I'm not all the way there yet. I'm sure many of you
guys (men) have been there and know what I'm talking about. Thank God I have
my wife Theresa and my family.
Thanks again, I Love You All, George

Doc-
Thank you very much for the DVD-very well done-credit to those providing all the pictures
That sure brings back many great memories from Roosevelt School and OHS Class of 1959!
I was very touched by the thoughtfulness of all those classmates that sent the nice card and the bookmark which I have put to good use
My cancer update is good news- I am in remission and after 4 more chemotherapy treatments in December I will look forward to a much better 2010-and Happy New Year to you and all of my great classmates------RICH
P.S> I would still like to know who that girl was I was dancing with in that picture-HA,HA

Wow! kissed all the guys, hugged all the gals and got called "Big Moos"---hadn't heard that in 50 years. There was a lot of love, some great memories and a real appreciation of all that we have become. Hope to see you all in 5 years.
Wayne, if you are up to it, be in charge again. I figure you will have recovered from all the effort by then. Great job!

Wayne and all,
Thanks for sharing Terry's heartfelt thoughts. I just wanted to add I tried to visit with everybody who attended the reunion, but I am sure that I missed some folks which I sincerely regret.
The weekend exceeded my great expectations!
Thank you, Thank you......

Well hello all;
I just received a call from Wayne inquiring why I did not show after having confirmed that I would attend. They gave me a supprise retirement party at work on Friday evening and I was unable to attend. I really wanted to show up because I still have a head of hair {well almost}. I really wanted to say a special hello to Dave DeSousa who gave me a ride to college back in 1963 after I had gotten out of the Army and had no idea of how I was going to get to CSU in Ohio, and to Gary Kirkman who I see every ten years or so because of a mutual friend. Clearly you guys did a great job in putting this together. I hope to see everyone at the next one.
Fondly,
Dr. Richard O. Daniel, Senior Clinical Social Worker [NSA] Ret.

Wayne, and all 59er's what a great reunion !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
l heard my wife ( Angela ) on the phone the next morning talking to her friend, and it
went something this.
"Nan, you had to see them, they truly cared about each other, or should l say they
seemed to love each other. l don't think anybody had dinner or if they even cared
as they kept going from table to table to say hello, hug, kiss, shake hands and
whatever else they could to show the true affection they had for each other.
So, l will let Angela's comments and observation stand and be my input as l couldn't say it
better myself.
My Best to All, Augie Di Sisto

I join with those who forward cudos to the reunion committee for a well planned and thoughtful event. As I reflect upon the weekend, it felt like I was a CD or video tape (remember those).... having multiple stops/pauses during a fast rewind/reverse of events-people-activities of the 50's...then experiencing a fast forward during the weekend's gatherings, tour of OHS and the fantastic banquet. Thanks Gene for the picture (did anyone check to see if those kneeling got up and made it to the rest of the weekend)
If anyone travels to Cape Cod Ma., please make contact... if you lose my address/email, just stop at the Cranberry Region Tourist Visitor Center on Interstate 195 in Wareham (open Apr to Nov...just before the bridges to the Cape)...they know me there, as I oversee the operation...it is a great part time retirement job (I can give you some tourist tips if you are vacationing to the area)

Add my thanks to you and the committee for all your work and warmth. I hope the blog will keep us in touch from now on.

Wayne,
I totally agree.
Maybe its our age, maybe its our maturing (not necessarily the same thing) but it seems we have grown more into a cohesive and caring whole. The woman who gave the tour of OHS noticed and commented on it quietly to a few of us standing near her in what appeared at least to me to be off-handed and genuine observation.
THANKS !!! ...again to you AND the committee without who's work, vision, giving, and soul this would not have happened.

Ditto, ditto, ditto.....what a wonderful reunion. Thank you so much, committee, for putting such an outstanding special event together -- all of your efforts are truly appreciated. Like you, I cannot get over the pervading feeling of love and caring that the Class of '59 exudes .... it is truly amazing. Take care of yourselves and see you at the next affair - maybe in 5 years????

This picture came through with Gene's letter, and I thank you for it. Looks and sounds like y'all had a great time, and I'm truly sorry I missed it. Maybe in 10 more years I'll finally have retired. I recognize several of these faces, but would really like a cheat sheet for some of the others. Is that a possibility? Continue to take care of yourselves so that you'll all be able to be there in 10 years. And I hope we can all keep in some sort of touch through this forum.
Best wishes to everyone,
Harriet
PS: I'm not on Pete Ingrassia's AOL approved list, so if someone can and cares to do so, please ask him to add me. Thanks.

Where to start? What a weekend to remember! Thanks to Wayne, Doc, Terry, Mary, Steve G, Carol, Steve Z & Bob for the outstanding job done.

Wayne and the Committee,
I echo the applause and kudos you have received for the tremendous effort put into this past weekend. As this was my first reunion, I find it emotionally difficult to express how I felt seeing so many of my classmates after more than 50 years. I really did feel the love of OHS Class of '59. God Bless you all.
May I also suggest that everyone who was taking pictures download them onto a CD and send them to Wayne or Doc so that they can be up-loaded to the web. Perhaps a CD could be made of all the photos and distributed!

Dear Class of OHS '59, especially the Reunion Committees
Thank you for bringing together so many old friends with their memories, humor, and affection. Although my teen sojourn in Ossining was brief I feel more connected to the place and the people now because of this reunion. The Herculean efforts to find everyone in the class, to reach out to those who are not well, and to commemorate those who have passed from this life were amazing and touching.
With love and appreciation to all who came for a sentimental, fun, celebratory and totally unforgettable weekend and greetings to those who missed it,
Anne Topham Holsclaw, Bala Cynwyd PA
----------------------------
I would like to thank the committee for putting this great weekend together. It was a substantial task to find everyone, make plans based on who is coming, provide lodging choices, maintain communications, etc.
I would also thank the people who came up with ideas such as the golf outing, meeting at the Briar’s, tour of OHS and the Main Street memory tour.
It was good seeing everyone again, although I only scored about 75% on recognition. It helped by meeting at the Briars and the walk thru OHS, but I know that I missed some people at Travelers Rest, which I regret.
I hope that everyone else enjoyed themselves and returned home safely.
Also, Beverly Dykstra, I hope that you are doing well and we will see you at the next reunion.
Regards to all,
Tony McSorley

Wow!! For me, that had to have been the best reunion ever! So many special memories were made! Thank you, thank you, to all who made it happen! Wayne was right...there was so much love! There was just something beautiful about seeing all the faces of our classmates at this time in our lives! To all who missed it, we missed you, too! I hope we can remain in touch . Love, Elly and Murray

From Mical:
I think we keep adding and adding and saying what a wonderful time.
How great a job the committee did, and they have my vote to keep on doing it.
And what a special and caring and loving and and and and class we are.
Everyone please stay well, so we can do it again in 5 or less years.
Mical and Neil too. (He had a great time as well)
And someone get in touch with Peter so he can get these e-mails
Love, love

What a fantastic collection of the big event. I even do recognize a few of you! I'll make the next one!

Hello all,
I'd like to join in thanking Wayne and all the hard working committee members for organizing such a memorable reunion. The dinner dance, slide presentation and everything else went so well and Travelers was a perfect choice. I know how much planning and hard work go into these events so again thanks to everyone who helped with the great 50th! Just got a new computer after my old Dell died shortly after the reunion so this is my first chance to chime in.
Regards.

This is a message from Janice (Budnick) Klimm -
My thanks to Wayne and all the committee members who made our reunion such a success. I had a wonderful time Saturday evening chatting with everyone about our good times at Ossining High and our early grade school days. A special thanks to Jimmy W. for bringing back memories of a 7th grade dance. Sunday's memorial was a very touching tribute.
Hope to see you all again,
Janice

From Big Duck Jim Worden:
Reprint from The Journal of Paranormal Science, October 2009 by Le Grosse Canard
Paranormal is a general term that describes unusual experiences that lack a scientific explanation,or phenomena alleged to be outside of science's current ability to explain or measure. Stories relating to paranormal phenomena are found in popular culture and folklore, but the scientific community, as referenced in statements made by organizations such as the United States National Science Foundation, maintains that scientific evidence does not support paranormal beliefs.
Scientific evidence to the contrary, a preponderence of quasi-factual feelings were experienced early this month in Ossining, New York. A preliminary analysis of a Close Encounter Event experienced on or about October 9-11, 2009 reveals that there is substantial evidence that there was a Close Encounter of The Reunion Kind, specifically a 5th level encounter. By way of review, the following are the different encounter levels established by Fred Hynek, working in conjunction with his brother, CFO researcher J. Allen Hynek, for these close encounters:
ENCOUNTER LEVELS - CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE REUNION KIND
1st Kind: Sighting of one or more inanimate objects from the past at a distance of 500 feet or less. (buildings, football fields, favorite parking spots).
2nd Kind: Sighting of an inanimate object with associated physical/psychological effects (familiar odors, fond memories, nostalgia).
3rd Kind: Sighting of an animated being presumed to be an old friend and/or classmate.
4th Kind: Actual physical contact with the inanimate object from the past in conjunction with observation of the aforementioned animated being (sighting inside the old school, a familiar bar or hangout).
5th Kind: Joint, bilateral contact events produced by the conscious, voluntary and proactive, personally initiated through cooperative communication with other members of the reunion. In many cases, witnesses experience a transformation of their sense of reality.
This state of paranormal activity seems to have been observed on a fairly regular chronological basis - so far every 10 years or so, probably based on some kind of cosmological principal we do not completely understand. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that a Close Encounter of The Fifth Kind was experienced by a substantial subgroup of the OHS class of ‘59. Sadly, exit polls have shown that most other reunion groups throughout the country rarely experience any encounter type beyond the 3rd or 4th Kind.
Plans are currently underway to use the $340 million in Stimulus Money to hire 2 technicians to erect an interferometer screen around the area to capture any possible physical evidence of these close encounters at subsequent reunions.
-----------------------
Dear Wayne,Doc,Terry and everyone that had a hand in the wonderful reunion,
I have been without a computer since the reunion and so I have just has a wonderful time reading all the e-mails. First thank you for "keeping me in the class". Second I was right though the years to talk about our class and the basic goodness I always knew was the class of "59" Ossining High School. The insides seem the same and it is only the casings that have changed a bit! You all outdid yourselves!! I only wish there had been more time to talk to each person. Hopefully we will keep this special bond and keep in touch.

The entire weekend was filled with love, emotion, and lots of hugs as is evident from the following photo gallery of hugs and buddies. Above, Barbara Boeckmann, Phyllis Yost Webber, Elly Kaufman Miller, Mical Koocher. Without question, the winner of the hugging contest was Tom Kane. He was everywhere, just like the Eveready Bunny! And to think, Tom was such a shy and inhibited young man back in his high school days ;-)

At our Saturday night Banquet, everyone danced to the sounds of the 50s as played by our special DJ (who earlier that day escorted us on a tour of the school). We even did the Stroll!
We not only had dancers, we had our own Chorus Line with the likes of Terry, Mical, Pat Nelson, Pat Canero, Carol Kaplan Smith, and Margot. Solely in the best interests of photographic journalism, I couldn't resist taking the middle shot from the floor and the last one from the derriere ;-)

Here's some more photos from the dancefloor. Jay Corsetti and Tom Kane won the best couple award, with Augie and Angela a very close second place!

What did you do immediately following high school?
I graduated from Holy Cross in ’63, and immediately went to work for the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company in south Jersey. While there, I got to hang around with Timmy during his senior year at Villanova, roomed for a year with Briarcliff friend Tom Creighton, and visited Tom Kane at the Fort Dix Army Hospital when he had knee surgery. But the highlight of my Jersey days was meeting Betty, and getting married.
What have you been doing since?
In 1966, I changed jobs, and began a 40 year career in medical sales and marketing—which I loved. That took us to Pennsylvania, briefly, but ultimately to Connecticut, where we raised our family, and remain today.
Now retired, I’m an avid tennis and bridge player, and recently have become very interested in genealogy. Family research has led me back to Ossining many times, and a natural curiosity of its history has developed. I’m involved in a number of local community services, as well as our grandchildren’s many activities.
Family:
Betty and I have two children: Michael, who is an attorney in Hartford, and Erin, who is a social worker in Bridgeport. We have five grandchildren (3 girls, 2 boys) ages 2 through 14.
I’m in contact with Tommy Kane, Steve Gardner, Billy O’Connor and old-roommate Tom Creighton on an irregular basis. I see members of the McCarthy family occasionally, and John Massey & Tony Parise when I go back to Ossining on my research tours. Also talked to Hank Lefstein and Missy recently.
Do you have a favorite OHS memory?
Most of my memories revolve around sports and parties! But I do remember the incident with Miss Com that Steve Gardner related, as well as Big Duck’s Lovelace tale. I also remember the time that Mr. Hughes accused me of “making sport” of him when I asked him if he were attending a football game—and invited me to leave his class!
I also remember listless summer days sitting on John Doyle’s and Timmy’s porches on Linden Avenue, watching the girls drive by. And basketball under the streetlight on Belleview Avenue, with John, Jack Donohue, George Dando and others.

Steve Gardner
Name: Steve Gardner
Address: 700 New Hampshire Ave. NW #918 Washington, DC 20037
Phone: 202-333-5951 Cell Phone: (207) 751-9656
What did you do immediately following high school?
Attended Bowdoin College…and eventually earned my BA
What have you been doing since?
Worked for IBM in Human Resources for 35 Years; had great experiences and good fortune to work in a number locations including: Armonk (of course), White Plains, Atlanta, San Francisco, Dallas, Burlington Vermont, plus 3 years in Paris and 3+ years in Tokyo. Ran across Richie Carson and Mary Jo Curran at times who also worked for IBM. All in all, a wonderful career! We moved to the Coast of Maine when I retired.
Outside of work, I have been very involved in community, education and not for profit activities and dabbled in small town politics.
Family:
I married Irene, a girl I met and began dating in Ossining (some of our class mates will remember her) in 1963. Our first date was actually at a party at Timmy’s. If my math is correct, we will be celebrating our 45th anniversary this fall. We have four children (now in their 40’s!!), and six grandchildren with a seventh on the way. A brother whom some will know from OHS (Lanny) and a much younger sister Anne.
Do you have a favorite OHS memory?
A couple:
Wayne telling Miss Com. that baseball (or basketball ) was more important than attending her Wizard meetings and getting fired as Sports Editor. Wayne has become responsible and successful since that time.
Tommy participating in the destruction of two cars: the interior of my ‘49 Ford, and the exterior of my father’s ‘59 convertible. Tommy…believe it or not… has also become responsible and successful since then.
The Half Moon, The Cozy Corner, The Cozy Tavern, The Briars and one other who’s name I can’t remember…we used to go there on Christmas Eve.
I think I answered this before…it involves Wayne, Miss Com and Tommy; quite a threesome! And another with Wayne, Tommy and something stuck in Tommy’s teeth

What did you do immediately following high school?
I received my Degree from Berkeley College. Immediately after graduation I was employed by General Electric (in Manhattan) for the next eight years in their Legal Department.
What have you been doing since?
I then took time off to raise our family (3 daughters.. .which definitely proves that God has a sense of humor). I also helped Charlie run his successful elections for the position of Supervisor for the Town of Cortlandt.
Also supported and assisted in all of the events the Town had during his twelve year tenure. This was a busy but really fun time in our lives. During this time I also did some major co-op conversions and opened two large complexes of town homes (Yorktown, Fishkill and Yonkers).
We have owned "Empress Travel & Cruises", a travel agency in Bedford Hills, for the last twenty years.
Needless to say during these last 20 years we have traveled all over the world to exciting and beautiful places.. .China, Monte Carlo, Europe,Caribbean, Mexico, Bora Bora, Tahiti, Cenkal and South America, Canada and Africa.
Family:
My husband, Charlie DiGiacomo-OHS Class of 1958, and I have been married since 1962.. .46 years! ! We have 3 married daughters: Deborah Covino, Dana Volpe and Dawn Mahoney. We also have 5 grandchildren: Lance Volpe (7), Michael Covino (6), Jake Mahoney (5) and twins Elena and Alexandra Volpe (3). This is probably one of the reasons I wake up every morning with a smile on my face!
Favorite OHS Memory:
Many of the fond QHS memories I have were remembering the parties at Patty Nelson's house with all of our friends. We also had some crazy pajama parties. Unfortunately, a senior moment prevents me from elaborating!

Terry says Hi
Wayne and I and our committee are busy working on our upcoming 50th Class Reunion. Please keep Saturday, October 10, 2009 free for our dinner/dance at "Travelers Rest", Route 100, Ossining, N.Y. Our memorial remembrance service will take place Sunday morning, October 11, 2009.
I was reading Tom Kane's comments regarding his recent trip to China. I too have recently returned from China spending most of the time in the Beijing area. I climbed PART of the Great Wall of China, visited Tian An Men Square and toured the Imperial Palace and walked the "Sacred Way to the Ming Tombs".
The most interesting was the day I spent with a family in Hutong. Their son met me and cycled me on his pedicab through their town to his home where I spent the day with him and his family.
I also spent a day at a school/orphanage and I promised Charlie that I would NOT bring home any little girls...he said raising 3 daughters was enough and now we have twin grand daughters ...if you remember Charlie (and his "wild ways") you will realize that God truly has a sense of humor!
Thank goodness we also have 3 grand sons to balance every thing out.
My best to everyone and I am looking forward to seeing each of you at our reunion on October 10, 2009.

I'm looking forward to more classmates sending me their bio and favorite photos so we can start the online conversations long before we get together in 2009. Wayne is doing a great job staying on top of the organizing efforts for the big 50th Reunion. I can't wait for the contest to guess the total number of pounds our class loses the 6 months prior to the Reunion ;-)
Here's a brief recap of what I've been doing these past 50 years:
- 1963 Graduated from Hamilton College in upstate NY
- 1966 Graduated from Fordham Law School - no longer known as "Doc"
- Didn't take long for Uncle Sam to get me to "volunteer" for US Army. Spent 4.5 years, stationed in Seoul, Korea and Oakland Army Base
- 1971-2000 Worked in Honolulu as attorney and real estate instructor. Real hardship tour, right! At age 34, married Pat in 1976. Still going strong. 3rd child born right before 40th. Kristine, Sean, and Jenny.
- 2000 to present relocated to San Diego where I'm involved in the real estate technology and education business. Have 3 grandsons (Justin, Andrew, Jack).

Here's a shot of Grandpa and Justin.
Bunny Me and son Sean @ 1984

The Reilly home at 47 So. Highland. The great backyard where we played stickball and football is now a paved parking lot ;-(

Guess Who are playing soldiers?????????? Check out the boots on my mystery buddy!

What have you been doing since?
Leisure: I did a bit of travelling -- my most memorable trips were a 15 day tour of Alaska, a trip out West which included Colorado, Montana, Dakotas; and a trip to New Orleans, fortunately many years before the levies broke.

Mical's Bio
"This Bio is short and sweet and all about family.
After graduating High School, I went on to college for a bit, but before I became a rocket scientist, I married Neil in 1961.
Our first ten years together we were busy moving up and down the east coast from Maine to Florida and back to Ossining, and while doing so managed to have a baby wherever we landed.
Then we spent 10 years in Ossining raising those 5 kids working hard and having a great time in the town I grew up in.
After Ossining, we moved to Vienna, VA. Those 5 kids grew, graduated, and got married. We worked, we traveled and then we retired.
We are now in Wellington, FL and visiting all those kids.
We have 10 grandkids and one great
Life has been kind to us and we are thankful."

Margot (Gensler) Connell
.jpg)

Immediately following high school, I attended Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. I graduated in 1963 with a B.A. in education.
I taught science and math at the Brookside elementary school in Ossining. Next I headed to California and taught elementary school in the Watts area of L.A. during the infamous "riots" of the 60's.
I met and married Bill Connell in L.A. in 1965. This union produced six wonderful children.(three girls and three boys). Two were born in L.A.; Two were born in N.J.; And two were born in Boston. Sadly, my husband Bill passed away after 36 years of marriage.
Life goes on. Our company, Connell Limited Partnership is still in place. A manufacturing company with many parts. We service the power, automobile, housing and heavy equipment industries. Not exactly my cup of tea, but I have made great strides! My duties as "Chairman" initiated my interest in the business world. Yes, I am still learning. Thankfully, I have a terrific team. We operate in 12 countries and have 3000 employees.
My family:
I have a great and large family.
My children all graduated from Boston College.
Monica, my first born, a mother of five, resides in Beverly Farms, Ma. with husband, Tom Healey, also a B.C graduate. She continued her education at the Parsons School of Design in N.Y. He is a partner with Morgan Stanley.
Lisa, an R.N., a mother of four (attention Tom Kane: her twin girls are sophomores at the Middlesex school in MA.) resides in Lexington, Ma. with husband John McNamara. He is partner in family lumber business.
Courtenay, every-ones "favorite " aunt resides in Palm Beach Gardens, Fl. with husband Ed Toner., also a B.C. graduate. She continued her education at the Boston school of Design. Ed has a nutritional supplement company, MAXGXL.
Billy, a Harvard Business School graduate and founding partner in a private equity firm, High Road Capitol Partners in NYC., father of four, soon to be five, resides in Greenwich, Ct. with his wife Pamela, also a B.C. graduate.
Terence, recently married in June 09, resides with his wife Kristin in the North End of Boston. He has worked for the family business for several years and is headed to Business School.
Timothy, my youngest wears many hats. B.C. graduate; French Culinary Institute NYC graduate; Berklee School of Music student (banjo) and is headed to Law School. He resides in the Back Bay of Boston and works for the family business.
My main residence is in Swampscott, Ma., the family home. I do spend time in Florida, Cape Cod and Montana. Traveling is one of my all time favorite things to do and I manage to fit trips into my schedule. I serve on various boards and attend to our families charitable endeavors. I recently received an honorary degree from Boston college--"A Doctor of Humane Letters" of which I am very proud.
Happily, I have re-connected with my "old" and "best" friends from good old OHS thanks to you, Wayne and John. It seems that Mical, Carol and Patty live near me in Florida, so we have been having some fun.
I am excited about our reunion and am truly looking forward to seeing you all.

Kathy with JoAnn Rapp and Pam Wilcox 1959
Kathy Sisley Smith
After high school I went to Mt Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in Manhattan. When I finished, I worked there at Mt Sinai for a couple of years, then discovered, on a vacation to Hawaii, via SF & LA, that there was life after New York! So, with a friend, I meandered across the country in an old green Rambler for a month on Route 66! Settled in San Francisco, fell in love with the city and stayed there for 8 years. In the middle of that I spent a year in Boston. Moved back to SF, lived in Haight Ashbury for a while, and continued my work as a nurse.
My nursing career was mostly in ICU, open heart, critical care and dialysis work. All very rewarding. At the time I left SF for Oregon, I was Supervisor for 5 ICUs, Recovery Room and Metabolic Research It was also rewarding living in SF (“single in SF in the sixties”!) and enjoying the many great outdoor sports like sailing, biking, and skiing., I learned to ski at Squaw Valley, Lake Tahoe(where our son was married a couple of yrs ago),and went there as often as possible, as well as trips to Aspen & Vail. That was the single life……then I met Michael!
We were married in Sausilito, CA then moved to Portland OR where we’ve been since. We raised our son, Brad, and daughter, Jennifer in the beautiful Northwest. They also were skiers, so we spent much time on Mt Bachelor and Mt Hood. We actually saw the other mountain, Mt St Helens explode from our deck on May 18, 1980! (and still have a jar of ash we swept off our deck)
Our daughter and son in law have 2 children, Joy 3yrs, who has definitely lived up to her name, and a son, Noah, almost a year. They now reside in Puyallup, WA which is much more convenient for us than when they lived in Orlando, then Nashville, then Ferndale, CA! Chris is a recording engineer with his own studio in Puyallup.
Our son and daughter in law have a son, Beckett, born exactly a week after our grandson Noah. They live in Novato, CA. Brad is with Marketwire, a multimedia/media management firm in SF, and Kelly is a graphic designer with George Lucas films at the Presidio in SF.
In 1994 we were fortunate to have Maria, a Rotary exchange student from East Germany, with us for a yr. She has become a part of our family, coming back over to visit us many times. I’ve been over there as well and seen where she grew up. Currently Maria is persuing her Phd in psychology.
I was a “stay at home mom” for many years, then worked in nursing part time for 10 yrs, then retired to work on my golf game! It’s been a great sport for me as skiing was out after knee issues (I had a knee replacement Dec :07, love it!). I am fortunate to be able to golf in competitions all over Oregon, lower Wash, and sometimes in Palm Desert, CA.
Michael and I enjoy traveling, and being with our family – grandchildren have been the most wonderful addition to our lives.
I have many fond memories of days in OHS, among them – playing flute in band and orchestra, art with Bob Globerman, biology with Abe Fischer, and all the great friends.

Rose Kappel Mekulik

After Graduation I went to work for the Beltone company. I married my high school boyfriend Nov. 1959 that I was engaged to in my senior year. We had 3 children, 2 girls and 1 boy. We also have 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. I have been working in the health field for 30 years and still working for outpatient surgery center full time as an instrument technologist. One of my many accomplishments in life is that I mastered riding a Harley at the young age of 50 ( I know one guy in our school that would be immensely surprised of this feat). I have attended many bike rallies since and plan on many more!!!!!!!!
My husband and I will be married 50 years in November.
We enjoy camping and traveling many places.
My memories of high school are football games, dances, also how much cheaper things were in that era including the ice cream sodas for 25 cents and movies on Saturdays. Remembering the great times at Cozy Corners and other places.
I moved south 20 years ago and now live in Gastonia, North Carolina ( 45 minutes from Charlotte) and absolutely love the weather not having to face the northern winters with snow and ice.
My best wishes to all the class of 1959 as I will not be attending due to my oldest grandson graduating early from college.
Best Wishes
Rose Kappel Mekulik

What did you do immediately following high school?
Stayed right there. That summer worked on grounds crew for Ossining Schools. Fall - Community College, electronics, then 4 yr physics degree .
What have you been doing since?
Moved to upstate NY w/ job. Most of working career as corporate salesman describing and modifying electronic sensors w/ design engineers.
Free Time:
- Music: - Have dabbled myself and in bands off and on since OHS ‘59. Often by day in 3 piece suit of corporate world. By night playing in smoky bars and road houses. (To any serious/ accomplished musicians reading this, I’m neither.)
- Farm: Bought up land to put back together an old farm where I still live. Spend much time in fields and woods. (heat my house 100% w/ wood I cut).
-Other: cooking, politics, old tractors, photography. Retirement is great but not enough time for everything.
(Instruments-in-the-woods pic from 2 yrs ago, included as it gives quick illustration of where much of my head is.)
How many in your family?
Married 14 years; 2 sons; (Neither so far married !) "Amicable" divorce (still "friends"), but swore NEVER to marry again. Lasted 25 yrs single, until met a sweetheart to whom now married.
Do you have a favorite OHS memory?
Camaraderie of friends; Harry Repp’s chemistry class; Mrs Smyth, who offered encouragement when most needed; First "girl friend"; "Railroad" sandwiches from Aschereman’s, Lunch times on the side of OHS listening to ad hoc Doo-Wop group, presided over by Warren "Sonny" Sharrock.
Interesting footnote for any who may not know: Sonny Sharrock became known in the jazz world as an avant-garde guitarist. He is credited with inventing a free, punchy, guitar style and is on recordings by Pharoah Sanders, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Larry Coryell, Herbie Mann, John McLaughlin and others. More info: http://www.ossining.org/sharrock/sharrock.htm (Site has other Ossining stuff including old pics.)

Looks like Suzy Kane finally found a way to get her energetic husband Tom under control!
Seems that Tom recently underwent eye surgery which necessitated that he remain in a very uncomfortable "head down" position for several weeks during the Christmas holiday. Suzy said: "For someone with as much energy as Tom, he was great keeping his head down, a feat that one of our friends pointed out will be good for his golf game." Tom, we all wish you a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing you and Suzy at the 50th.
* Thanks to Steve "Ossie" Gardner for passing along the information and photos.
Here's a shot of the entrance to Tom and Suzy's New Mexico abode
If you really want to know what’s going on with me?,…at this moment Saturday afternoon, August 22, I’m sitting in the Narita airport lounge waiting for my connection home. I just spent a week in China working, and will return several more times before the year is over. No, I’m not dealing in Opium…I’m still very active in my business and enjoying my life in Taos. Our oldest son Tom is the theater director at the Middlesex School in Concord Mass and our youngest son Peter is a heart surgeon in Wilmington North Carolina. Both are married with young children. Suzy is very active in our community and is still writing and working at getting published. We have all been activist...our living in Taos should give you a big hint as to our bent.
Hope you are all well…looking forward to seeing you in 09.
Tom Kane
