Learn the truth about RE/MAX |
After working at a conventional real estate office for nearly 15 years I decided to take control of my career and start my own business. It all started when I discovered an amazing building just around the corner from my original office. It dated back to 1885 and had some decent views of the water, and year round sailboats dry-docked. Being across the street from the water and being on the best stretch of Main Street, Port Washington, I felt very secure in purchasing the building. It is a fabulous property of over 3000sq ft . A 2 story building with fabulous onsite parking, adjacent to the Knicherbocker tennis facilities.
Thee whole process of purchasing and developing the building and the business is whta real estate is all about to me, and a direction and natural evolution that finally allows me to feel that I am truly creating something in a field I truly enjoy.
The renovation of the structure was nothing short of a miracle. The building was obviously a home at one time. It clearly has the exterior design of an old north shore or Cape Cod, Mass. village colonial. Over the years it had gone through a number of identity changes, finally evolving into zoned commercial office space. It actually had evolved to a natural best use of the existing space, but the interior environment was nearly unlivable.
Thanks to a dedicated team of true professionals including the architect and contractor, and landscape architect I mentioned earlier, the team treated the space as if they would be working and living inside. The result was a rebirth of sorts. The underlying value and essence of the place was uncovered. The building has gotten the most amazing reaction. Everyone that worked on it wants to work in it. I have the whole place rented to my team of real estate pros. I actually have a problem, because I`m somewhat short on space for my future agents. I`ll deal with it!
The finishing touch was handled by a combination of my darling wife, a talented local decorator/designer and myself. As usual I agonized through a selection process of carpeting, paint colors lighting fixtures and finishing hardware. Greg, my Cornell trained landscape architect devised a stunning two-sided blustone stairway up to the French-door. Incidentally all three exterior doors were replaced with 15 light glass panelled French-doors resulting in an amazing quality of natural light throughout all but a very small very interior space.
Now as a RE/MAX franchise owner it`s my goal to finish this transformation into a veritable "REAL ESTATE CENTER". My hope and dream now is to have the components of the real estate working together synergistically. The "glue"of transactional real estate: buying & selling ; advising and investing ; integrating naturally with the Port Washington community as if it had been there for the last 100 years as a mainstay of the town.
I have been putting in place the exciting new world of the internet with all the col technological tools that are so appropriate for an information intensive industry like real estate has become. Computers printers copiers phones faxes coupled with the communicational software to share productivity.
The paradigm shift has certainly begun - and at 416 Main Street, Port Washington NY the doors are open for all who want to take part in a true rennaissance.
The first week of March I`d like to invite all my friends and colleagues that I`ve made over the last 15 years to visit our new home and get an idea why I`m so excited about real estate again!!
With the help of my in-house staff I had created the nearly perfect evnvironment.
