I was initially licensed in 1971 and spent the next 30 years listing and selling real estate. In 1987 I called upon my earlier experience and also began training new agents for my real estate brokerage, a large regional independent. Sometime around 1995 I heard about computers, but didn't believe a word I heard. In 1997 my MLS service went computer only and, after wrenching my print MLS book from my reluctant hands, my local REALTOR© association forced me into learning to use the computer system. Around the same time I was introduced to (non-MLS!) Email. At that point I thought I possessed all the computer knowledge anyone would ever need. In the time since 1997 I have learned (1) what a dummy I was then and (2) how much knowledge and fun I could coax from the little plastic box. In my generation we did not grow up with computers and I have been forced to seek assistance from my grandchildren. They have been very patient with me, often giving me encouragement ("That's very good, MiMi!") and, unintentionally, giving me a window into the world in which they live. Now my job is teaching real estate agents all over the country and writing courses and textbooks for me and other instructors to use. My specialties are trainer training, Quadrennial Ethics, fair housing and risk management. I have developed a Policy Manual Template specific to real estate brokerages that is in Ms Word format for use principally by start-up brokers. There are plans to develop more broker tools.
