Darwin White

Let me be one of the first people to welcome you to the great state of TN. 

I was born in Madisonville TN on May 1,1960 to the proud parents of Billy and Jimmie White.... (Yes my moms name is Jimmie).   My parents named me Darwin of all names they could have chosen.  I hated that name when I was growing up, people never could get it right!  The called me Darrin, Darvin, Dorin, Darlin, Darvin, and yes they even called me Charles!  Today I love the name, its easy for people to remember though the first thought is why would someone name their kid Darwin! But I am an evolutionist but not the kind your thinking!  I have ever been Evolving as a real estate professional staying on the cutting edge, watching and participating in all the ways the market changes, and now at a more rapid paste then ever before.

I have been a licensed real estate agent for 24 years and a licensed Broker for about 10 of those years, Since that time I have had the privilege of watching, and participating in the wonderful "Evolution" of the real estate industry.  When I started real estate rates were at 18% and falling.  I remember the excitement we all felt when the rates dropped to 11% wow we thought we are going to sell some houses now!  I remember when we had to go to the court house to look up tax records, and there was a service we could subscribe to that would bring a 3x5 index card with basic information regarding new sales and deed transfers.  I remember talking on the phone louder and louder because the noise of the dot matrix printer was so loud I could hardly hear what people were saying on the phone.. Speaking of phones, I remember the very first time cell phones came to the city of Chattanooga, up till then we were lucky if we could use repeater radio's to talk back to the office.  I bought my first phone, it was in a bag, with a separate and heavy lawn  mower battery.  On the way to a listing appointment that very first day the phone rang for the first time.  It was a man on the other end with a strong South African accent.  He wanted to see one of my listings.  I explained I was going to an appointment and wanted to know if he could see it at another time.  No he said had to see it now, could I find another agent to show him.  I called my listing appointment and rescheduled and showed the house which he bought and that commission paid the some $1700 dollars it cost to buy and also paid for the next 5 years of cell time!  I remember my first computer had less memory on it then my black berry! I remember writing a letter to the association of realtors encouraging them to move forward in technology.  I remember stating that one day we would all be sending contracts back and forth by e-mail - forget the fax and that we could even schedule showing appointments by e-mail! They actually laughed, but a few years ago one of the MLS committee members found that letter and called me to share with me that she thought I was crazy and a dreamer, but she had kept the letter in the file and now wanted to say thank you for being on the cutting edge.  I remember when the internet was for fun no one took it serious.  I remember being one of the first in the industry here in Chattanooga TN to actually sell a house over then internet with out ever showing it to my buyer.  My broker was horrified at the thought of all the potential risk I had exposed him too!  Now today my website at www.RealEstateHomeLink.com has received as many as 1 million visitors in a single year!  I average over 5000 + leads at any given month from people who want to be notified of new listings and information about the Chattanooga area.

In the year 2000 I joined RE/MAX Properties, my first reason for wanting to work there was the fact that they embraced the technology that was available, provided on line training, wow I did not have to go out of town to get my continued education, I could do it right there in the office, I loved the company website and one thing that caught my attention was the level of professionalism, knowledge and use of technology.  I was impressed with the fact that at the time almost every agent that had gone from one Franchise to the RE/MAX brand had, had doubled to tripled thier income after they made the change.  I was impressed with the fact that on the average a RE/MAX AGENT was out selling other agents in the area by 3 to 1 ratio!  I made the move jumping out of the traditional real estate box and continued my quest to think outside of the box, to be part of the Evolution process that was taking the real estate industry by storm.

Now today the real estate industry is Evolving even more because of the use of the social networking such as Face Book. Today I find my self better informed about my friends and clients, My relationship with them is more than just a simple business transaction.  I actually know when their Birthday is, I actually know that their daughter fell and broke her arm.  I actually get invited to go to church with them or invite them to church with me. 

Its a new world out there or is it?  In many ways it is, but one thing has not changed and never will and that is Old Fashion Grit and hard work, Old Fashion Values, Old Fashion Integrity, and Old Fashion Values.  These things I have held on too, and never plan to let go.
