About Me

EXPERIENCE: I am a licensed real estate broker in the State of Illinois. I have practiced real estate full time for the last 19 years, and specialize in residential sales and vacant land in St. Clair, Monroe, and northern Randolph Counties. I am experienced in Buyer brokerage, contract negotiations, and professional standards. Since my affiliation with RE/MAX in 1991, I have been granted numerous sales production awards from RE/MAX Prestige, RE/MAX Preferred, RE/MAX International, and the Belleville Area Association of REALTOR's. I was honored with the RE/MAX Regional President's Award for 1994, and the Belleville Area Association of REALTOR's Associate of the Year in 1995. I am one of the top production agents in Monroe County and the REALTOR Association of Southwestern Illinois. Prior to my real estate licensure, I was employed for 8 years by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. as a mid level manager. I worked at stores in Waterloo, Belleville, Cahokia, Wood River, Sparta, and South County in supervisory positions.

EDUCATION: My educational background includes some college level course work in business and professional planning through the University Of Illinois at Champaign Urbana, Graduate Realtor Institute studies, Residential Sales Council classes, and relocation studies provided by the Employee Relocation Council. I currently hold the Certified Relocation Professional Designation. I have completed the studies at the Graduate Realtor's Institute and have been awarded the Certified Residential Specialist Designation. I have completed Professional Spokesperson Training and Leadership Training programs sponsored by the Illinois Association of REALTORS to prepare me to serve as the President of the Belleville Area Association of REALTORS in 2002. Most recntly, I earned the e-Pro designation, reflecting my electronic communications and internet skills and backround.

PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS: I am a member of the Realtor Association of Southwestern Illinois, Illinois Association of Realtors, and National Association of Realtors, as well as the Employee Relocation Council and the Residential Sales Council. I served as the the 2001/2002 President of the Belleville Area Association of REALTORS, and have served on the Budget & Finance Committee, Membership, RPAC, MLS, Education, Technology and Visionary Committees. I also have past experience as a Governor of the Southwestern Regional Multiple Listing Service. At a state level, I serve on the Illinois Association of REALTORS Professional Standards Committee.

CIVIC/COMMUNITY: On a local level, I have served as a Director of the Monroe County Heritage Foundation. In 1988, I served on the Waterloo Planning Commission. I still periodically attend city and county meetings to stay current with changes affecting property ownership rights in the local ordinances. Communication with the Dept. of Transportation is an ongoing process to stay current on the State's improvement plans. I belong to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and correspond with the Illinois Historical Preservation Agency to stay abreast of State and Federal tax programs for property owners.

A portion of every commission I earn is donated to the Children's Miracle Network, benefiting local children. In 1995, I was honored with the Regional President's award for contributions to Community as well as Real Estate endeavors.

PERSONAL: I am a member of the 5th generation of the Dugan family, who immigrated to New Design township in Monroe County in 1838. My ancestor, Timothy Dugan, purchased 40 acres for $50, and supported his family through farming and innkeeping.

An original native of Waterloo, I am married to Dennis Markham. I followed him as a military bride to the plains of Texas and Big Sky Country in Montana, with a brief detour to Miami, Florida. After serving our country, we settled in Waterloo to raise our children, Jesse and Eli.

I have a strong belief in family values, integrity, and honesty. I am dedicated to providing the highest level of service, and to assisting my clients in the successful negotiation of their property transactions.

Thank you for the opportunity to represent you, and to be of service to you and your family.

Yours Truly,

Barbara F. Markham
