Oct. 7, 2006 - re: Columbus Days in Columbus Ohio

Columbus is one of the few cities with a "name day" that I can think of.  Well, I guess the cities named after presidents have president's day.

Name days are a big thing in Eastern Europe.  Kind of like saints days.  A second chance to have a party for yourself in addition to the birthday.
I don't think I could get Detroit Day to become a national holiday, hard as I may try.

Did Columbus day used to be a bank holiday?

MF wrote: "Hey, what happened to my comment I left early this morning?" It's a ploy by the blogger to get more comment... I have to approve because of spammers and hecklers... I mostly approve the heckler but do not want the heckler to have instant gratification....  if I didn't edit out the heckler I am not going to edit out you.

MF from MI asked "Did Columbus day used to be a bank holiday? "  I don't know... I did read up some about when it became a holiday...when it became socially unacceptable to celebrate it... and no where in the history did I notice anything about the status as a national holiday or a banking holiday... I just noticed it in a bank Friday.  I know when I first moved to Columbus I was suprised by it being a semi-holiday... kinda sorta. I know I was out of town the first couple of years I lived here  on the weekend... and I wanted to stick around to see how festive it was....thanks for the comments... I am not sure why I did not see the first one earlier...
