In honor of St. Francis of Assisi many Columbus Christian churches have Pet Blessings:  

My friend Rachael goes to St. Mark's Episcopal Church. They get to bring pets to church today to be blessed in honor of St.Francis of Assisi, they can bring dogs anyway.  Rachael is bringing Jamie her puppy to church.  St Mark's Episcopal Church is at 2151 Dorset Rd, Columbus, OH 43221 (Upper Arlington) (614) 486-9452 

St. James Episcopal Church at  3400 Calumet Street,  Columbus, Ohio  43214-4106 has a Blessing of the Animals this afternoon.

"The Blessing of the Animals in celebration of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi will be held on Sunday, October 1st at 3:00 p.m. on the lawn of the church. There will be a tent set up so the Blessing will occur rain or shine. There will be a brief service followed by the individual blessing of each pet. We do ask that your pet be secured (on a leash or caged) as may be necessary for their comfort. Feel free to invite friends and neighbors (along with their ‘special friends’) to share this time as we celebrate God’s love and bounty in all of his creation." 

Many Catholic Churches will have Blessing of the Animals this week.  One of the biggest is at  St. Francis of Assisi Church, located at 386 Buttles Ave Columbus, OH 43215:

The one year I took my dog Sox to St. Francis of Assisi Church there were Columbus Police horses at the church to be blessed. 

More animals.....the American Quarter Horse Congress is in town!

I think that's it for animals....

October is Columbus's month.  Columbus day is October 12 celebrated on the  second Monday,  October 9.
