Mar. 7, 2010 - Thoughts on the Supra Aquisition
I was so busy with the Workshop last week that I haven't been able to give much attention to some of the big news last week - Supra (GE Security)was aquired by UTC Fire & Security (UTCFS).
UTCFS is part of United Technologies Corporation - one of those Fortune 50 companies that no one has ever heard of but everyone knows what they make or do. For example, UTC business units make Otis elevators and Sikorsky helicopters.
What does this mean for the real estate industry? I think it's a good thing. UTC has a history of letting the businesses run separately and serve their customers. They aren't a functional structured conglomerate requiring many levels of sign offs to get products, services, or communications approved. This should keep decisions, service enhancements, and solutions down at the Supra level - in the hands of people that really know what their customers want. You'll probably notice right away that when you call, they answer as Supra! Meanwhile, UTCFS will likely invest in Supra's product portfolio and R&D - there may be some neat synergies.
I'm just waiting for my shot to negotiate a ride in the Sikorsky helicopter. So, if you need help with that Supra contract ...
