El Jalapeno opens in Wedowee

Posted at 12:46 PM, Oct. 18, 2007

There is a new restuarant in Wedowee and I tried it out for the first time today. El Jalapeno (located on U.S. 431 North) did not disappoint. First off, I do have to say I LOVE Mexican Food. I love the cheese dip, salsa (even though I don't like tomatoes) and the chips.

I got take out for my mom and I this afternoon and love the abundant choices available. My mom chose the mushroom quesadilla while I got the fajita nachos. They were great!! When I picked up the order, I noticed the decor which features brightly painted walls and enough tables to handle a big crowd.

The restaurant has only been open for almost 2 weeks and the masses seem to be giving the new restaurant a shot.

When I try more things on the menu, I will let you know!!

Have a great day!

Kelly

You need an ALL STAR when moving these days

Posted at 7:33 AM, Sep. 27, 2007

Recommendation by: Ron Winslett

We have recommended many goods and services in the Lake Wedowee area over the last year and we always love to hear from you. A past client (Mr. Ron Winslett) came to us with the idea of recommending a mover, we jumped on the idea as long as Mr. Winslett gave us his personal account of the services he received from All Star Movers. We hope you find the information useful. Also if you have any future ideas for our "May We Recommend" section, please let us know.

It is not too often we step out on limbs and make recommendations on Service Companies, but in the case of "All Star Movers", Winston, Georgia (also licensed in Alabama), and Mr. Ron Motes, this is the exception.

Unfortunately over the span of my 36 year career, I had to move my household far too many times. And, in each of those times, there was always some negative experience. Whether it be major or small, there is no doubt something bad is going to happen. However, in the case with our last (and final move of our lives), we contracted All-Star Moving, Mr. Ron Motes, and Company to move our household from Lake Wedowee to our new home in Carrollton, GA.

Simply put, from beginning to end; from the initial visit and estimates which Mr. Motes accomplished personally, until the last box was removed from his high image trucks, this move was flawless.

With some much interest in homes and in Real Estate in general between Randolph County and Carroll County, GA, there is no doubt, in our minds, "All-Star" should be your first call. Extremely courteous loaders and the crews which handled our household goods and may have been the "Best" your moving dollar can buy. "All-Star's" motto is "22 Years of Reliable and Dependable Service. This certainly was our experience.

For further information or to possibly contact their Company, please call: Mr. Ron Motes General Manager All-Star Movers Winston, GA (770) 577-2142 or Ron's Cell: (770) 316-2340

Choo Choo Barbeque Makes the Right Move

A Taste Of Lake Wedowee

                                                                                                     By: Collin White

I didn’t think too much about Choo Choo Barbeque leaving Douglasville for Wedowee until my husband and I bought a Lake place late last summer.  Since I work in Douglasville, I had eaten there a couple of times and was impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the portion sizes.  I had no complaints with the food, but in growing, bustling Douglasville, it was hard for Choo Choo to stand out among the other 100 plus eating establishments.

Fast forward to a lazy Saturday night at Sunset Point on Lake Wedowee when no one had thought ahead to suppertime.  A quick call to Choo Choo and soon we were eating barbeque sandwiches and fries.  And wow- they were good.  Maybe it was the lake atmosphere…

This happened a few more times before we finally decided to try dining in instead of taking out.  We loaded up with the neighbors and headed down Highway 431.  The staff was still friendly but the surroundings were remarkably different.  Nothing fancy, but roomy and comfortable for the folks who like to gather up and make eating out a social event.  And the portions…well, it’s safe to say that no one in our circle has ever gone away hungry.

Obviously the specialty of the house is barbeque, and my husband and I prefer the pork.  Sometimes we get the sandwich and other times we get the plate.  Either way, the French fries are a must!  Home cut and just greasy enough to be yummy rather than yucky, the fries are great dipped in ranch dressing.  The onion rings are good too, but my first choice is always the fries.

Once I decided to stray from the traditional barbeque, I tried the Saturday night “Surf and Turf” special.  The steak was very tender and cooked exactly as ordered.  I had the fried shrimp while some of my dinner companions tried the grilled.  While both were tasty, the fried seemed to come out slightly on top.  The salad bar is small but well stocked with a good variety of dressings (I don’t actually put ranch on everything…)

My other favorites are the fried green tomatoes (also great with ranch dressing) and the banana pudding.  I almost cried one Saturday afternoon when I found out that the banana pudding wasn’t going to be ready until Sunday.  But I ate a chilidog and felt a little better.

All in all, Choo Choo Barbeque has made a great move to Wedowee.  They provide a much needed service in Randolph County.  The food is simple but good, the prices are very reasonable, and the portions never disappoint.  Visit more than once and you’ll be greeted like one of the family!

Collin White and her husband Frank own a cottage at Sunset Point and would live in Wedowee full time if they could.
