First, Welcome to All Things Outlook!

While my company does sell an addin (RealeSeller) for Outlook, that is not the primary purpose for this discussion area. I know that there are many, many questions related to Outlook and its sister programs like Word and Publisher that need answers. Hopefully here is where you can get them. If you consider yourself an expert on Outlook, Word, Publisher, or any other program in the Microsoft Office suite, please contact me if you would like to be added as an expert in this group. All questions and suggestions for this subject and this group are welcome.

Please start a new thread when asking a new question please.

To make things a little easier to answer, please post the following information along with your question or problem as it may make a difference as to the answer you get:

Operating system: Windows 2000, XP, Vista and service pack if known.
Outlook Version: Outlook 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007 and service pack if known.

I use RealeSeller myself and like the addition of many fields that are applicable to Real Estate. I have had the pleasure of talking with Larry and Mike down at RealeSeller. Like with any software program there can be issues that come up, but what I like is how quickly they are taken care of. Larry and Mike are VERY knowledgeable with their product and how it interacts with Outlook. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable with Outlook and i am very happy with this product.

I am having issues with Outlook..

First one is after I receive an e-mail that has a link within the message, if I click on the link, it will not take me to the site.. I'm sure it has something to do with my security parimeters, but I cannot find it..

Guess we can take these one at a time..

Thanks for your help.

Hi Rob,

In Outlook 2003, if the sender is considered safe, then links will work in your Inbox. Any other folders it might have been moved to may not have links active.

In Outlook, go to Tools, Options, Preferences tab.
Click the Junk E-mail button
In the Junk E-mail Options tab, at the bottom it should have a check in the box that says Don't turn on links in messages...
On the Safe Senders tab, that persons email address should be added, or if they are one of your Contacts, put a check in the box near the bottom of that tab that says Also trust e-mail from my Contacts
If you want to trust people you send e-mail to, you can also put a check in that box also... I don't necessarily think this is a good idea, but that's up to you. If I add them as a contact, and their e-mail address is a part of that information, then the first check box will take care of this.

Close all the windows using the OK button.

As an example, I take RealTalk as a digest and an Outlook rule I made moves it from the Inbox to my RealTalk email folder. Sometimes Outlook disables the links at the top of the email so I have to allow them. It doesn't do it all the time, but I'm not exactly sure why because the messages sent from that Internet Crusade email address are supposed to be treated as Safe. But, Outlook may be seeing something I'm not aware of.

Hope this helps.

Hey Larry.. thanks for the help... I actually have Outlook 2007.. but it is pretty much the same and I found the enable links box, however it didn't change the symptom. Do I have to reboot the computer to let it apply?

@Realtown is in my safe sender list (as are all my "contacts".. found that box also).. but in order to reply to your post, I still had to go back to Realtown.com.. Could it be something in McAfee?

BTW.. in 07' Outlook, you don't have to go thru the Tools drop down.. In the Message screen, there is a Junk e-mail tab.. just click on it and it will give you those same options.. (just trying to contribute my share) :)

Hi Rob,

It is very possible that McAfee is causing the issue. I don't have that issue with my Outlook 2007 installation... all links in email located in my Inbox work fine. I don't use or recommend McAffee or Norton as I feel they have become giant bloated junk software that often do more harm (waste a users time by blocking or interfering with things) than good. They both slow down every computer I have ever seen them installed on...

If McAffee is causing this issue, you can test it by going to Tools, Trust Center...
In the Trust Center, choose Add-ins
In the bottom section of the window, choose Manage: COM Add-ins, then click Go...
In the COM Add-Ins window, uncheck any box next to an item that mentions McAffee
Click the OK button.

You might have to restart Outlook to make the links start working again... but the McAffee stuff should be suspended.

If your links start working, you might consider a different anti-virus software, like Avast or AVG ... you can try either one for free here:
AVAST: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
AVG: http://free.avg.com/

Hope this has been of some help to you...

P.S.
Many menu features are available by choosing the item, like an email in the list, then right-clicking to see a list of things you can do... selecting the Junk E-Mail Options is just one of them... thanks for the tip as there are many ways to do the same thing. You will usually see me post the "Standard" route and not many short-cuts unless I'm doing a tip about them. Short-cuts seem to change but the old menu method usually stays the same... usually... ;-)

Are you are running Vista? I can't think of any reason why after removing McAfee and you setting things up the way I suggested, wouldn't make things right... but, as with all things on these computers, there may be something messing with things. The links on old email may be stuck that way... what about new mail links?

Yes running Vista.. Can you reply at the bottom of the e-mail where it says "Quote or Reply"?

I still can't.. even on your newest reply.. It does give me an error message (unable to locate URL) instead of just thinking, then stopping..

Is the free version of AVG enough protection?

Thanks for all your help..

Yes, I can just hit Reply on these messages... but, I'm running XP Pro, too many issues with Vista. I'd almost bet you are having that current issue because of security settings in Vista... ain't it fun?

I'm using AVG right now. The free version is good for testing to see if you like it. Their software is getting a little heavy handed with Version 8, so I've been evaluating some others. I'll post about it when I've finished testing.
