I have outlook 2007 with VIsta. For the past 2 weeks I have been unable to send or receive from mid-afternoon until midnight. At exactly midnight my outlook begins working property. The problem only occurs at home with my Hughesnet ISP on both my laptop and desktop. My laptop works fine throughout the day if I am working off of a different ISP. Problem is not related to my router since it occurs when I am wired directly to the internet.

My internet service provide insists that it is a Microsoft problem because my webmail works throught the day. Microsoft insists it is an ISP problem because it occurs on both of my Outlook programs and is not a problem if I use different ISP. Help?

IMO this is a connectivity issue. To prove this, take the laptop to a different Internet connection during the same time that the desktop can't get on the Internet at home... Bring it to my house if you like ;-)

Seriously, let's first troubleshoot the connectivity.

Been there done that.

Yes, the laptop works from outside connection at the same time laptop and desk top do not work when connected to my home ISP (Hugesnet). However, the Hughesnet webmail does work during the down time.

Thanks for your help.

This tells us that there is a problem with the 'port' during that time period, meaning the web mail works but not sending eMail from Outlook doesn't (different ports).

IMO, I don't agree with Hughesnet.., it is NOT your OS. If they still insist, maybe we suggest you bring them to your house when the connection (to sending eMail) stops working...

Another solution is we have an eMail product that will work for you by sending the eMail over a different port.

One more thing..., I am just thinking that the hours you are mentioning might be that of a student coming home from school. Could it possibly be a neighbor who hacked into your router (or maybe you don't have security on the connection)/.

We had an issue similar to this recently. Our domain host, without informing us I might add, changed the send port on the email servers. Normally the send port is 25 and the incoming is 110. Once we changed the port number for sending, everything worked fine. The odd part was that it did work "sometimes" using the old port number, but it was unreliable at best. Now that we changed everything it all works perfectly. Make sure the ports for sending and receiving are correct and that you aren't trying to connect using the secure checkboxes as this will also cause failures.
