Wendy, My wife bought me a book from Amazon.com by the name of "Managing Contacts with Outlook 2007 Business Contact Manager" written by Edward and Timothy Kachinske and Stacy Roach that has been a great help.

As for Account Names, I use headings like :

Closed

Closings

BPO's

Property Mgmt

Buyers

Sellers, etc.

I'm looking to have a good contact management system and would like to know who uses the Outlook BCM system for real estate and do you think it's excellent. I used Respond which is an Outlook add-on and liked its features, but it's buggy and doesn't integrate with Outlook very well. It crashes the application frequently.

Committing to a program is huge because changing programs is a major project that I don't want to make a habit of. Everyone that I talk top says not to use Top Producer. I'm considering Outlook BCM becasue I've been an outlook user for many years.

Sugggestions, recommendations are all welcome.

Thanks

I'm afraid I haven't used the Business Contact Manager I have, but have tried Top Producer. I have only two comments about TP, (well 3):

1. You'd better have VERY DEEP pockets with $$$$.

2. Top Producer means only tops at producing income for THEM.

3. TP stands for toilet paper...

My hesitation on BCM is my limit on time to invest in getting it up and running. Heard good about it.

Footnote: I liked Online Agent when I used it, but moved 600 miles and didn't re-up for it.

Walt et al;

Reading the posts from folks who are interested in a CRM/CMS application (no matter the flavor) are always perplexing..

I say that because most of the folks who use em, don't use 50% or more, of the features/options...TP is one example..It is a very powerful RE specific app, that most folks (in my firsthand experience as an IT Pro) do not use its' true capabilities....It ends up being used in the most basic of ways, that can easily be duplicated by Outlook...

You've got to remember, that unless you are actually going to collect, then use, all the various bits of data, what's the point?

BCM is one such animal, why not get comfortable using Outlook first,, and I mean really using it fully, before trying to learn BCM too?

I preach here all the time of the benefits of Outlook for people in the business of selling Real Estate...It works quite well if used properly, and really shines when coupled with Exchange...

This system allows you to have outlook on multiple pc's all connected to your exchange account, and each machine will have the exact same data..any changes made on one, show up on the others...NO DATA loss again!!

Exchange also lets you bypass the various POP/SMTP sending/receiving issues that many of you experience...It does not matter how I get on the 'net, or on what network, I will ALWAYS be able to send/receive...

My smartphone is connected too, so i have all my outlook info there, all synchronized wirelessly...an appointment made on my phone, shows up on all of my machines (3 to be exact) running outlook...

If you want RE specific data, forget BCM and use Active Agent from www.sonomaenetrprises.com or RealeSeller of www.realeseller.com both are add-ons to outlook and work great as a standalone app or in the exchange setting...
