I have a new Blackberry Bold an am considering how to connect to Outlook.

It appears there are two choices, 1, to connect directly to Outlook on the laptop through a connecting cable or Bluetooth, or 2. through an "enterprise" connection.

My Outlook (2003) is on my laptop. Op sys is WinXP Home. I want my contacts, calendar and notes synced with the BB.

I'm not sure about e-mail as I get around 200 a day and don't know if I want to see them all on the BB. I think I can probably delete the 95% spam best directly on Outlook which I access several times a day.

1. has the advantage of working when offline and no monthly expense.

2. has the advantage of online storage of the data base.

Thoughts, advise and experiences please.

ps. the BB as a tethered modem far outperforms my old AT&T aircard.

What you are describing is simply syncing Outlook email with your BlackBerry. This simply moves/copies the email you have already seen on Outlook to your device.

The real value of a BB is receiving/sending "live" realtime email. Since Outlook is merely an email "client program" it doesn't do much until connect to your email "POP" servers like Yahoo, Gmail, Comcast, corportate...etc mail server. Once you do this, mail is delivered to the BB and Outlook.

As for SPAM, you can set up filters and directives to specificy what email is and is not sent to the BB independent of Outlook.

I have about four different email accounts that I send/receive on my BB. It has taken a few months to get the filters right, but now I only get the email I want on my device.

Each phone has certain contact capabilities, but the look and feel of the contact interface in a Windows Mobile phone is about as close as it gets. Some of the newer BB's have a better contact interface than before, but there isn't an installable "Outlook" program for phones that I am aware of.

Yes...You need to set up MS Exchange and use your BB with BES vs BIS....This will give you your outlook info on your BB, and any pc's connected to the exchange account...A change made on the device is reflected on the pc's and vice versa....

We set up lots of Realtors and other SMB's on this system, works great...
